  • Patent number: 8457052
Abstract: A wireless communication device receives targeted information and/or advertisements. The wireless communication device is preprogrammed with a generic network address only. To communicate over a network, the wireless communication sends an activation request message to the network, including its generic network address (GNA) and information indicative of the base station via which communication is taking place. Knowing the geographical location of the base station, it is possible to send to the wireless communication device via its GNA, or a subsequently provided unique network address (UNA), information or advertisements targeted to the geographical location or particular wireless device.

  • Patent number: 7738879
Abstract: A method and system are described for providing a wireless telecommunications service provider with location information of a mobile service subscriber. When a mobile subscriber device acknowledges receipt of a data packet received at the mobile device, or when the mobile device originates a transmission, the cellular telecommunications site, or base station, receiving the acknowledgement or transmission serves as an entry node into the telecommunications system. Resource identification information for the entry node is extracted from billing message traffic logs and is exposed to the service provider. The service provider uses the resource identification information to find the location of the entry node in an entry node information database. Alternatively the location may be provided with the resource identification information. Provision of location information allows the service provider to know that its mobile subscriber is located in the area covered by that particular entry node.

  • Publication number: 20060258351
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for selective broadcast enhancement. A registration request includes a randomly selected a generic access number (GAN) and a hardware serial number (HSN). A registration response comprising the randomly-selected generic access number (GAN), a broadcast access number (BAN), and an identification of a radio channel. A broadcast is sent or received over the radio channel with the broadcast including data associated with the BAN. The radio channel is then monitored for communications traffic.

  • Publication number: 20060007858
Abstract: A system for and method of analyzing packet traffic in a packet-switched network, including collecting traffic logs from a network operations center, wherein the traffic logs are representative of packet traffic passing through an actual configuration of the network, and wherein each traffic log includes the time the traffic log was created and an associated packet's network entry and exit points. The collected traffic logs are stored in a computer such that the traffic logs can be replayed. A computer file is thereafter created and is representative of a modified network configuration that is different from the actual configuration of the network. The traffic logs are replayed in coordination with the modified network configuration to generate a histogram file representative of packet traffic passing through or via at least one of a host, node or link in the modified network configuration.

  • Publication number: 20060004884
Abstract: A system and method for data distribution and recovery, including a server that broadcasts data to a plurality of clients and a means for a client to identify and recover broadcast data that the client missed while it was off line. In a representative embodiment, the system includes a transfer server, a plurality of clients in communication with the transfer server, and an archive in communication with the transfer server and the plurality of clients. The transfer server receives data packets from a data source, uniquely identifies each data packet, and broadcasts the data packets to the plurality of clients and the archive. Each client receives the data broadcast from the transfer server, identifies missing data, and communicates with the archive to recover the missing data.

  • Patent number: 6636489
Abstract: In a wireless communication system including a base station, a network and a control unit, a generic network address is initially stored in a communication device, the communication device being activated onto the network utilizing the generic network address. If service is to be provided to the communication device, a control unit of the network provides a unique network address for storage in the communication device for use in subsequent communication between the communication device and the network.
