  • Publication number: 20250140285
Abstract: Rather than disposing a cap layer on a rear soft bias (RSB) of a DFL read head prior to the patterning of the RSB and TMR sensor, disclosed is a decoupling layer disposed on the RSB and TMR sensor after they undergo patterning, with the decoupling layer undergoing its own subsequent patterning. The RSB and the TMR sensor can thus be patterned (defined) together without a RSB cap layer adversely affecting the patterning. As the decoupling layer undergoes its separate patterning, its cross-track width can be flexibly optimized to be greater than that of both the RSB and the TMR sensor. In some embodiments, the decoupling layer's extra width will help it completely decouple the RSB and TMR sensor from the top shield. The side shields will be partially decoupled from the top shield due to the extra width, but will still retain partial coupling to the top shield.

  • Patent number: 12183372
Abstract: Various illustrative aspects are directed to a data storage device comprising a disk and a read/write head configured to read data from and write data to the disk. The read/write head comprises a write pole tip and a transducer configured near the write pole tip. One or more processing devices are mounted on or near the read/write head and generate an AC current that is applied to the transducer to cause the transducer to generate a high frequency auxiliary field that is applied to the disk. The one or more processing devices may be an RF source IC mounted on or near a slider on which the read/write head is integrated or mounted.

  • Patent number: 12094499
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a dual free layer (DFL) read head. In one embodiment, a dual free layer (DFL) read head, comprising: a tunnel magneto resistance (TMR) sensor disposed at a media facing surface (MFS); soft bias (SB) side shields disposed adjacent to the TMR sensor at the MFS; and a rear soft bias (RSB) disposed adjacent to the TMR sensor recessed from the MFS. The RSB has a nonmagnetic cap, the nonmagnetic cap comprising: a first nonmagnetic cap layer; and a second nonmagnetic cap layer, wherein an etch selectivity of the first nonmagnetic cap layer to the second nonmagnetic cap layer is a ratio of a:b in a first chemistry and a ratio of x:y in a second chemistry, wherein a is greater than b, and y is greater than x, and the second nonmagnetic cap layer is disposed on the first nonmagnetic cap layer.

  • Patent number: 11497652
Abstract: Apparatus and methods to treat skin defects include a pump with reservoirs for a pressurization gas and a fluid. Upon activation, the pump generates a gas introduced into the gas reservoir, a movable wall of which displaces a movable wall of a fluid source, thus dispensing the fluid into the dressing to spread throughout irrespective of orientation of the dressing, maintaining a transport fluid (e.g. carrier) in the dressing and in contact with a skin defect being treated. The dressing may have a distribution network, and multiple members, dispensing the fluid into the dressing and in contact with a skin defect being treated.

  • Patent number: 11280009
Abstract: A system to remove sodium and Sulfur from a feed stream containing alkali metal sulfides and polysulfides in addition to heavy metals. The system includes an electrolytic cell having an anolyte compartment housing an anode in contact with an anolyte. The anolyte includes alkali metal sulfides and polysulfides dissolved in a polar organic solvent. The anolyte includes heavy metal ions. A separator includes an ion conducting membrane and separates the anolyte compartment from a catholyte compartment that includes a cathode in contact with a catholyte. The catholyte includes an alkali ion-conductive liquid. A power source applies a voltage to the electrolytic cell high enough to reduce the alkali metal and oxidize Sulfur ions to allow recovery of the alkali metal and elemental sulfur. The ratio of sodium to Sulfur is such that the open circuit potential of the electrolytic cell is greater than about 2.3V.

  • Patent number: 10435631
Abstract: The present technology provides a process that includes heating a first mixture of elemental sulfur and particles comprising an alkali metal sulfide in a liquid hydrocarbon to a temperature of at least 150° C., to provide a sulfur-treated mixture comprising agglomerated particles; and separating the agglomerated particles from the sulfur-treated mixture to provide a desulfurized liquid hydrocarbon and separated solids. This process may be used as part of a suite of processes for desulfurizing liquid hydrocarbons contaminated with organosulfur compounds and other heteroatom-based contaminants. The present technology further provides processes for converting carbon-rich solids (e.g., petroleum coke) into fuels.
