  • Patent number: 11842645
Abstract: A method of communicating between a rotary wing platform and a ground terminal via a satellite. The method comprises, at the rotary wing platform, receiving a forward link signal transmitted by the satellite; on the basis of the received forward link signal, estimating at least one obstruction characteristic associated with obstruction of a signal transmission path between the rotary wing platform and the satellite by one or more blades of the rotary wing platform; determining a plurality of time periods during which the at least one obstruction characteristic indicates that the signal transmission path will not be obstructed by the one or more blades of the rotary wing platform; and transmitting to the satellite a bursted carrier return link signal comprising a plurality of bursts, wherein each burst in the plurality of bursts is transmitted during one of the determined time periods.

  • Patent number: 6254779
Abstract: An acidic organics-containing waste water stream (12) derived from for example plant for the production of an aromatic carboxylic acid such as terephthalic acid is treated to allow recovery of alkali and water for recycle to the production process. The treatment comprises adjusting the pH of the waste water stream using an alakaline medium, oxidising (10) the organics content of the stream to convert the same to water, carbon dioxide and (bi)carbonate ions, and supplying the treated stream to a reverse osmosis membrane (28, 30) to produce a retentate containing (bi)carbonate ions and cations derived from the alkaline medium and a permeate which is substantially free of those components. The retentate (46) is recycled for use in adjustment of the pH of the waste water stream and, if desired, water-consuming facilities which can tolerate less pure water.

  • Patent number: 5411337
Abstract: A locking ring assembly retains a bearing to a shaft rotatably supported on a first axis of rotation. Guide pins extend axially from an annularly shaped bearing retainer slidably disposed on the shaft toward the pressure ring, also slidably on the shaft. A head of the guide pins is slidably disposed and captured in adjusting apertures of the pressure ring. Pressure screws in the adjusting apertures of the pressure ring translate axially in the apertures of the pressure ring when rotated, engaging the guide pin heads to displace the pressure ring from the bearing retainer. The pressure ring reacts against a reaction element disposed on the shaft opposite the bearing retainer to develop an axial thrust load against the bearing.
