    Abstract: A drawer-type storage unit for use in a vehicle having a floor defining a floor space having a horizontally accessible access position. The storage unit defines a raised floor when installed on the vehicle floor which is adapted to support a load in a manner similar to the vehicle floor itself. The storage unit includes a drawer formed of a plurality of U-shaped channels having the legs thereof welded together and having hemmed top edges. The drawer includes a front wall which is recessed within the storage unit housing in the closed position thereof and sealed to the top and sidewalls of the housing so as to effectively prevent passage of water and other environmental materials into the drawer in the closed position. The rear of the housing is sealingly closed. The storage unit includes a number of different rigidifying structures to provide a high strength and rigidity therein.

    Abstract: A rack for use with a truck having a body. The rack includes upright legs each having a lower end constructed to be mounted to the truck body to define longitudinally spaced pairs of upright legs at transversely opposite sides of the truck. Each leg has an upper end portion. A pair of elongated side members is provided, one side member being clamped to the legs at one side of the truck and the other side member being clamped to the legs at the other side of the truck at longitudinally spaced portions of the side members. Transverse rack members are provided having ends carried on the upper ends of the upright legs. The ends of the transverse members are received in sockets secured to the upper leg ends. A portion of the clamp structure is fixed to the upper leg ends.

    Abstract: A closure control for a storage box or the like having a heavy lid selectively movable between a closed position, wherein the lid closes an upwardly opening receptacle for receiving tools and the like, and an open position wherein the lid extends upwardly from a rear wall of the receptacle to provide facilitated access to the interior thereof. Movement of the closure lid between the closed and opened positions is assisted by a sealed pneumatic spring device. The spring device is arranged to provide a controlled rate of extension. The spring device is mounted within the receptacle in such a manner as to be protected against damage from articles placed into the receptacle. In the illustrated embodiment, the spring is located at the rear corners of a parallelepiped receptacle. In the illustrated embodiment, wall structures are provided adjacent the spring to further protect the spring against injury from articles placed in the receptacle.

    Abstract: A lock system for a container, such as a tool box or a storage cabinet which is locked by a padlock. Structure within the container mounts the padlock within the container with only a key insertion end of the padlock body exposed for access thereto. A bracket holds the shackle against movement and the padlock body is supported for movement between locked and unlocked relation with the shackle. A pivoted lock bracket associated with a movable closure for the container is positionable within the shackle when the container is closed for movement into engagement with the shackle by the padlock body as the latter is advanced for locking of the padlock.

    Abstract: A storage cabinet having a body with front, rear and side walls extending upwardly from a bottom to define a storage space and having recessed handles mounted within recesses in the side walls and with preformed skid members secured to the underside of the bottom and adapted for attachment of casters. The particular storage cabinet disclosed additionally has a two-part cover with reinforcing members associated therewith to strengthen the cover and coact with the body components to render the storage cabinet more secure against theft.
