  • Patent number: 4159145
Abstract: An armrest of a seating structure has one end connected to a back through means such that the armrest pivots between a horizontal forwardly projecting arm support position and a storage position in which it is disclosed in a recess in a corner formed by front and side surfaces of the back. The pivot axis is so oriented that the armrest moves into a recess which is inwardly sloped because of a corresponding slope of the side of the back. The connection means provides for relative axial movement to allow the armrest to slide sidewardly outwardly during movement from the storage position to the arm support position. A radially extending pin in one member extends into an angularly and axially extending slot in another to obtain such axial movement in response to pivotal movement of the armrest.

  • Patent number: 4131960
Abstract: A convertible seat-bed is provided in which seat and back cushions are attached to frames which are supported from a linkage for movement between a seating condition in which the back cushion extends upwardly and rearwardly from the rear edge of the seat cushion and a bed condition in which body-engaging surfaces of the cushions are in a common horizontal plane. The linkage includes a front swing arm pivotally connected at its upper end to a back frame, a rear swing arm connected at its upper end and to the back frame through a short link and a link between the swing arms extending forwardly to the lower end of another link which is pivotally connected at its upper end to a seat frame and which is connected through a further link to the front swing are. The linkage operates to keep the rear edge of the seat cushion in close proximity to an adjacent edge of the back cushion in both conditions and is located below and behind the seat and back cushions.

  • Patent number: 4123028
Abstract: A swivel pedestal for a vehicle seat is provided in which a vertical tube is secured at its lower end to a base member and at its upper end is supported by a horizontal top wall of a housing, the tube receiving a tubular shaft rigidly secured to and depending from a rectangular mounting plate adapted to be secured to the other side of a vehicle seat. A brace plate is secured to the mounting plate and has a horizontal portion between the mounting plate and the housing top wall, with a cam portion for camming the upper end of a lock bar outwardly, terminating in a V-shaped notch receiving a V-shaped locking portion of the lock bar, the lock bar being pivoted at its lower end on a horizontal axis and being spring-urged inwardly, and an actuating handle being secured to the upper end of the lock bar. A stop is provided for limiting angular movement of the brace plate and for insuring alignment of the lock bar with the notch at the locking position.

  • Patent number: 4054956
Abstract: The invention relates to a folding bunk bed assembly in which a pair of hingedly connected cushion sections are supported on arms to swing about a horizontal axis close to a wall from an upperbed condition in which they are in side-by-side horizontal relation and a lower condition in which one is folded behind the other and against the wall, the outer section then forming a back rest for a person sitting on a seat-bed, the seat-bed serving as a lower bunk when the cushion sections are in the upper bed condition to serve as an upper bunk.

  • Patent number: 4037872
Abstract: A seat-bed unit is provided in which at each end, first and second arms are respectively pivotal on a first stationary axis close to a floor and a second stationary axis behind the first axis and preferably spaced upwardly from the floor. The rearward end of a seat frame and the lower end of a back frame are pivotally connected to each other and to the upper end of the first arm, while a connection is provided between the back frame and the upper end of the second arm, preferably including a short link which is pivotally connected at its forward end to the back frame and at its rearward end to the upper end of the second arm. Preferably, a second link is provided between intermediate portions of the first and second arms with stop pins on the first and second arms engagable with the second link.

  • Patent number: 4029303
Abstract: A spring-frame assembly is provided for seats or the like including a plurality of wire springs in horizontally spaced relation between a pair of horizontal tubular frame members in spaced parallel relation. A pair of clips are provided for each spring, receiving opposite end portions thereof and including hook sections extending over the frame members downwardly around the outside thereof and thence inwardly and further including retaining sections engaging over portions of the spring spaced inwardly from the end portions thereof. The springs are preferably sinuous springs pre-formed to assume an upwardly bowed configuration and to apply torques and forces on the clips insuring secure engagement of the clips with the frame members. The clips have a ribbed construction for increased strength with flanges to provide extended areas of contact with the frame members.

  • Patent number: 4001901
Abstract: A seat-bed assembly is provided including a pair of units in facing relation each including a seat and a back, the units being operable between a seat condition in which forward edge portions of the seats are spaced a substantial distance from each other with the backs projecting upwardly and rearwardly from rearward edge portions of the seat and a bed condition in which the seat sections are moved forwardly to position the forward edges thereof in contiguous relation and in which the backs are moved down behind the seats, the upper surfaces of the seats and backs being then in a common horizontal plane. An important feature is in the provision of an operating mechanism for each unit including pivotal arms pivotally connected to the back, first links pivotally connected between intermediate points of the arms and the rearward part of the seat and second links pivotally connected between intermediate points of the first links and the back.
