Abstract: In agricultural practice it is known to use emulsifiable oils (commonly referred to a Crop Oil Concentrates, COC) as bioefficacy enhancers for pesticides, especially herbicides. Cationic surfactants are widely known to be particularly effective bio-active enhancers for herbicides, especially for glyphosate-type herbicides. The present invention includes two novel aspects: 1) While the vast majority of COCs are petroleum-based paraffinic oils or esterified seed oils, this invention embodies a new oil phase, a hydrocarbon oil such exemplified by EXXON-MOBIL'S D-130, which when combined with the surfactants described herein, exhibits surprising enhancement of herbicidal activity in field tests; and 2) COC's are designed to form stable emulsions in water. The combination of cationic surfactants and phosphate esters in this invention not only form very stable emulsions in water, but, surprisingly, also form extremely stable emulsions in concentrated liquid fertilizers, including 32-0-0 fertilizer.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are surfactants useful for improving the bioefficacy of herbicides. A surfactant according to the invention may comprise: (i) phosphate monoesters of tallow amine ethoxylates, alone or in combination with phosphate diesters of tallow amine ethoxylates, or (ii) alkoxylated phosphate monoesters of tallow amine ethoxylates, alone or in combination with alkoxylated phosphate diesters of tallow amine ethoxylates. The present invention also provides for herbicide compositions that contain the surfactants of the present invention. The herbicide compositions comprise a herbicidal active ingredient, a surfactant of the present invention, and optionally, one or more formulation aids. The herbicide compositions of the present invention unexpectedly have a reduced tendency to cause eye and skin irritation. The present invention additionally provides for a method of controlling unwanted weeds or vegetation using the herbicide compositions of the present invention.

Abstract: Etheramine alkoxylates are described which have the formula: ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is a straight or branched alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl group of 6 to 22 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl; m averages from about 1 to about 20; and x and y each independently average from about 0 to 30, where x+y averages from about 2 to about 60. These etheramine alkoxylates have surfactant properties. Further, they may be quaternized to make other compounds which will have useful surfactant properties.
