    Abstract: An extracorporeal lung assistance device having an oxygen-containing gas chamber positioned in such relationship to a gas exchange chamber that transfer of oxygen to blood and the withdrawal of carbon dioxide from blood disposed may be made. The gas exchange chamber has a blood flow channel extending through the gas exchanger defined by a microporous membrane forming a wall separating the blood flow channel from an oxygen, carbon dioxide exchange media. A second membrane supported in spaced-apart relationship from said first membrane. The space between the membranes is filled with the oxygen carbon dioxide exchange media.
