Patent number: 5793797Abstract: An electronic data transmission system has a low peak-to-average power ratio by including a transmitter circuit which receives an input signal and in response generates a distorted output signal. This distorted output signal is generated by amplifying the input signal with one particular gain when the input signal is at a maximum magnitude which gives the distorted output signal a corresponding maximum magnitude, and by amplifying the input signal with a larger gain when the input signal is in a predetermined range below the maximum magnitude. The distorted output signal travels over a communication channel to a receiver circuit, which regenerates the input signal by amplifying the distorted output signal with a gain that is the inverse of the gain by which the distorted signal is generated.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1995Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Unisys CorporationInventors: Thomas Robert Giallorenzi, David William Matolak, Johnny Michael Harris, Robert William Steagall, Bruce Howard Williams

Patent number: 5767208Abstract: A polymerization process for olefinically or acetylenically unsaturated monomers is disclosed. The process comprises contacting the one or more of the monomers with a suitable ionic catalyst system in the presence of a long-chain, linear alkyl ligand-containing organo aluminum compound. Preferred ionic catalysts are derived from 1) bridged hafnium compounds, 2) silicon bridged monocyclopentadienyl titanium compounds and 3) unbridged, bulky Group 15 containing, bulky monocyclopentadienyl titanium compounds, and a non-coordinating anion precursor compound. A class of preferred anion precursors consists of hydrated salts comprising a Group 1 or 2 cation and a non-coordinating anion. Using the preferred ionic catalysts high temperature processes, e.g., at or above 90.degree. C. can be conducted to prepare polyolefins, particularly ethylene copolymers, of both high molecular weight and high comonomer content.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc.Inventors: Howard William Turner, George Alan Vaughan, Richard Allen Fisher, John Flexer Walzer, Jr., Charles Stanley Speed, Bernard Jean Folie, Donna Jean Crowther

Patent number: 5747904Abstract: A moisture drain plug for use with a cylindrical motor housing provides a plurality of diverse drainage pathways to promote the egress of moisture from within the housing. The plurality of diverse drainage pathways includes a first set of primary moisture egress pathways and a second set of secondary moisture egress pathways. Should one or more of the primary moisture egress pathways become clogged, the secondary moisture egress pathways provide for more than adequate drainage from the motor housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Reliance Electric Industrial CompanyInventors: Douglas H. Patent number: 5719908Abstract: A high speed bit synchronizer is provided with a digital phase detector and a digital offset eliminating circuit. The output of the digital offset eliminating circuit is summed together with the output of the digital phase detector to compensate for the DC offset voltage generated by unsymmetrical digital data received at the input of the phase detector. Further, the phase error offset voltage produced at the output of the digital phase detector is linearized so that the lock point of the phase S-curve located on a linearized portion of a phase offset S-curve, thus, substantially eliminating all seeking and jitter that normally occurs at the lock point.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Unisys CorporationInventors: Roy Edgar Greeff, Glenn Arthur Arbanas, Bruce Howard Williams

Patent number: 5696795Abstract: An improved quadrature phase shift key modulator circuit of the type which includes a non-linear amplifier in the transmitter and includes a frequency select logic circuit for receiving the in phase and quadrature phase digital data to be modulated onto a carrier frequency signal. The output of the frequency select circuit produces select signals that are coupled to the input of a digital carrier frequency generator. The digital carrier frequency generator synthesizes and increases, decreases, or leaves unchanged the carrier frequency as a representation of the data occurring on the in phase and quadrature phase input lines. The output of the digital carrier frequency generator is smoothed and converted to an analog signal which has a constant vector power magnitude during phase change.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1995Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Assignee: Unisys CorporationInventors: Bruce Howard Williams, Roy Edgar Greeff, Glenn Arthur Arbanas

Patent number: 5644879Abstract: A seismic expansion joint cover includes a floor bridge panel having mutually perpendicular elongated U-shaped bearing receiver guideways adjacent its opposite ends slidably supported by linear bearings affixed to the floor portions on opposite sides of the gap. The receiver guideways are open vertically to allow the floor bridge cover to displace vertically. A cover plate frame defines the boundaries of a floor recess that receives portions of the floor bridge panel in all relative positions of the floor portions as the width of the gap changes. The portion of the floor bridge panel that overlies the gap is covered by a first floor cover plate, and the recess and the remaining portion of the floor bridge plate are covered by a second floor cover plate, which is supported by the cover plate frame and by the portion of the floor bridge panel that it overlies. The second cover plate is resiliently attached to the cover plate frame so that it can lift up and ride over the first cover plate when the gap narrows.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Construction Specialties, Inc.Inventors: Thomas A.
