  • Patent number: 7240786
Abstract: A feed apparatus for isolating and feeding spirals (3) or the like to a binding apparatus has an isolating roll (12) comprising depressions (19), which are distributed over the circumferential surface (11) thereof and are parallel to the axis, for receiving in each case a spiral (3), which circumferential surface (11) is moved under a scraper (20) which comprises a chain (25) which is moved in the opposite direction over two rollers (21, 22) arranged vertically one on top of the other and which carries outward-projecting scraping fingers (27) which are in the form of bundles of resilient bristles. From the circumferential surface (11), the spirals (3) pass via a baffle plate (40) onto a conveyor (30) having drivers (37) which transport them to a slot (43), where they are delivered to the binding apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5730437
Abstract: An apparatus and method of preparing bundles for binding, where the method is carried out at a high processing frequency and the device is of a compact construction, where bundles of sheets are raised from the upper end of a supply stack of a punching device in a continuous manner by means of an engagement tool and the respective bundle is displaced by a pusher, with the result that its opposite border region projects into a punching device and is processed there.

  • Patent number: 5042343
Abstract: A device for automatic separation of wire binding portions of random length and shape. From a delivery spool a wire strand is fed into a feed mechanism behind which is arranged a cutting mechanism. A sensor measures the length of the wire binding portion and consequently initiates the cutting process via a processor. A further sensor establishes the discharge of the separated wire binding portion.

  • Patent number: 4756345
Abstract: In a machine for producing a hanging member or hanger from a wire portion, the hanging member is obtained by cutting off the wire portion from a wire unwound from a wire roll. The wire portion is inserted by feed means in the holding and deforming station of the machine, and is centered in a binding of a pack of sheets introduced into the station. Following the closing of the binding holders and movable clamping jaws, a hanging ring is bend in the wire portion by means of a movable bending tool. In the machine, the hanging member is produced fully automatically without any manual intervention and inserted in the binding of the pack of sheet, independently of the type of binding used.

  • Patent number: 4228830
Abstract: A device for forming a hanging eye in a wire binder, having a plurality of loops extending through a stack of sheets adjacent one edge of the sheets with the recess formed in the edge, comprising, a housing, a pair of tongs pivotally mounted in the housing, forming a jaw for grasping one of the loops in the binder, and a first driver for closing and opening the tongs to grasp and release the loop. The frame is movable to bring the jaw into the vicinity of the recess with the first driver being energized to grasp a loop adjacent the recess in the jaw. A second driver is connected to the tongs for rotating them about 90.degree. to rotate the grasped loop adjacent the recess. The first driver is then energized to open the jaws and the second driver is energized to remove the jaws from the vicinity of the recess. A hanging eye is thus formed from the loop which has been rotated through 90.degree. in a continuous operation.
