  • Patent number: 6186843
Abstract: A carrier (1) comprises a guiding tape (10) from which a plurality of linking strips (11) extend and engage with a plurality of contacts (12) each of which comprises a mating portion (121) having a first half (1211) and a second half (1212) connected to each other via an engagement plate (1213). A plurality of compliant pins (122) extends from the first half (1211) and each compliant pin (122) terminates as a free end (123). A plurality of linking strips (11) engages with each first half (1211). A guiding tape (10) engages with the linking strips (11) so that each linking strip (11) is connected between the first half (1211) and the guiding tape (10). A coining step to round the edge of compliant portions (1223) is to be carried out. The attachment of the guiding tape (10) to the linking strips (11) rather than to the free ends (123) of the compliant pins (122) facilitates such coining step.

  • Patent number: 6116918
Abstract: A high pin density connector includes an insulative housing defining a plurality of passageways for receiving a corresponding number of contacts therein for interferentially engaging with holes defined in a PCB. A positioning block attached to the housing forms a bearing face for receiving a force from an external tool for facilitating insertion of the contacts into the corresponding holes of the PCB. Guiding means comprises two grooves defined in the bearing face of the positioning block and ribs formed on a bottom face of the tool. The tool engages with the positioning block by inserting the ribs into the corresponding grooves. When a user exerts a force on the tool, the force is evenly distributed along the positioning block whereby all of the contacts are properly received in the corresponding holes of the PCB.

  • Patent number: 6106308
Abstract: The present invention provides a contact which facilitates proper insertion into a housing of an electrical connector without deflection of the contact after configuration. The contact of the electrical connector comprises a main plate having a central flat portion and two bent sides projecting therefrom and facing each other. A mating terminal includes two clamping branches respectively extending from the bent sides of the main plate along a longitudinal axis of the main plate. A compliant pin extends from one end of the central flat portion of the main plate opposite the extending direction of the mating terminal and is substantially right angled at an intermediate portion thereof. A tail terminates from the compliant pin and defines a hole therein for engagement with a hole of a circuit board. A curved shoulder is formed near the tail for facilitating insertion of the tail into the hole of the printed circuit board.
