Abstract: Disclosed is a safety alert apparatus, comprising a communication module to connect a communication network, a detection module including an activity detector and a determination module to determine an emergency event, according to an activity detection signal generated by the activity detector, and to provide an alert signal to the communication module, when an emergency event is determined, such that the communication module provides emergency alerts to a predetermined remote device; wherein the activity detector comprises an electrical appliance remote controller signal detector and uses a wireless channel signal of the electrical appliance remote controller as the activity detection signal.

Abstract: A method of constructing a personal map database is provided. A positioning device having a positioning functionality, installed in an automobile is provided. The automobile is set into motion along a path heading towards a destination. A plurality of positions are recorded, wherein each recorded position comprises information including a distance of current position relative to a starting point and time to create a positioning data. A personal map database is generated using the positioning data. The personal map database can be downloaded to any positioning device and can be used to generate a personal map leading to the recreation spot of interest contained in the personal map database.

Abstract: A network connection device having internal circuitry capable of wiring correctly to a network cable is described. The network connection device includes an interface circuit, a switching array and a controlling circuit. First, the network connection device is physically connected to the network cable. Next, the positive and negative receiving terminals in the interface circuit are connected to a pair of signal carrying wires through the device's internal circuitry. Depending on the returned preamble field, the connections to the signal-carrying wires are judged to be either incorrect, in which case the connection has to be swapped through device's internal circuitry, or correct, in which case no swapping is required. Subsequently, the positive and negative transmission terminals are connected to a second pair of wires inside the network cable. Next, a data packet is sent out through the transmission terminal.
