  • Patent number: 11963074
Abstract: Systems and methods for maintaining and dynamically updating inactivity timers at a user equipment to detect a one-way audio or mute call to improve call experience are disclosed. The method enables the user equipment to perform a set of actions (e.g., enable, disable, drop call, don't drop call, etc.) when a one-way audio or mute call is detected. Values for the timer and/or action parameters can be dynamically determined and/or communicated to the user equipment by a telecommunications service provider based on one or more of the following factors: network health, network congestion, current events, type of call (e.g., emergency, non-emergency), type of customer (e.g., business, premium, residential, etc.), service-level agreement, and so on. Values for the timer and/or action parameters can be configurable based on a location.

  • Patent number: 11936761
Abstract: A component of a cellular communication system is configured to prioritize data packets based on packet tags that have been associated with the data packets. The packet tags may comprise an application identifier and a customer identifier, as examples. A Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer of a radio protocol stack receives a data packet and associated packet tags and assigns the data packet to a preferred transmission queue or a non-preferred transmission queue, based on the packet tags associated with the data packet. In order to manage queue overflows, data packets of the non-preferred transmission queue may be discarded when they have been queued for more than a predetermined length of time. Data packets of the preferred transmission queue, however, are retained regardless of how long they have been queued.

  • Patent number: 11902862
Abstract: A service type symbol may be presented on a display of a communication device to indicate a type of service supported or unsupported on the communication device over a network to which the communication device is presently connected. The communication device may determine a value of a parameter, may determine, based at least in part on the value of the parameter, a service type symbol from a set of multiple different service type symbols to present on a display of the communication device, and may present the symbol on the display. Service type symbols might include, among others, a video symbol corresponding to a video streaming service, a voice symbol corresponding to a voice calling service, a basic data symbol corresponding to a basic data service.

  • Publication number: 20230345566
Abstract: A solution for handling network congestion includes: attempting, by a user equipment (UE), to initiate a data session (e.g., a voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) call) over a packet data network (PDN); receiving, by the UE, a notification of network congestion; based on at least a fast retry timer and a fast retry counter, attempting, by the UE, fast retries up to a maximum number of fast retries at a fast retry time interval; and based on at least none of the initial attempt and the fast retries initiating the data session, attempting, by the UE, slow retries at a slow retry time interval until the data session is initiated or a trigger condition halts the slow retries. In some examples, the UE receives a retry parameter set from the network including the maximum number of fast retries, the fast retry time interval, and the slow retry time interval.

  • Patent number: 11800393
Abstract: A knowledge base of cell information can be built and made available to one or more mobile devices. A mobile device with access to this cell information may proactively perform a radio signal scan at a frequency of an expected cell(s) that is/are indicated in the cell information (e.g., if the expected cell is associated with a serving cell and/or with a geolocation that corresponds to the current Global Positioning System (GPS) location of the mobile device). After performing the radio signal scan, the mobile device may store measurement information (e.g., signal strength) about the expected cell(s) in local memory of the mobile device, and, upon receiving an instruction from the serving cell, the mobile device may access the stored measurement information from its local memory, and may send the measurement information to the requesting serving cell.

  • Patent number: 11792694
Abstract: When initiating a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) communication session between an originating device (MO) and a terminating device (MT) on a packet-switched network, network components associated with the MO may encounter a failure when preparing resources for the session, such as a failure to establish a dedicated bearer with the MO. This might typically cause the system to abort the session. Instead, the network components are configured to detect the failure and to initiate a handover to a circuit-switched communication network so that the session may be conducted through the circuit-switched communication network. The failure may be detected by a component of a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Radio Access Network (RAN) of the network, by a Mobility Management Entity (MME) of the network, or by some other network component. Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) procedures may be used to implement the handover.

  • Publication number: 20230319658
Abstract: System and methods for smart cell selection and reselection are described. A mobile device may attempt to camp on a cell in a tracking area that has advertised a particular frequency band. If the mobile device is unable to recognize an information element identifying a different subset of the advertised frequency band than that supported by the mobile device, the mobile device will store a record of the tracking area and the advertised frequency band and compare future cell information broadcasts to the entry, avoiding attempts to operate within cells in the same tracking area advertising the same frequency. In this way the mobile device conserves resources by avoiding actions in incompatible cells and avoids storing information about many cells by only storing the tracking area information.

  • Publication number: 20230298605
Abstract: Described herein are techniques, devices, and systems for selectively using a music-capable audio codec on-demand during a communication session. A user equipment (UE) may adaptively transition between using a first audio codec that provides a first audio bandwidth and a second audio codec (e.g., the EVS-FB codec) that provides a second audio bandwidth that is greater than the first audio bandwidth. The transition to the second audio codec may occur in response to determining that sound in the environment of the UE includes frequencies outside of a range of frequencies associated with a human voice, such as by determining that music is being played in the environment of the UE, which allows for selectively using a music-capable audio codec when it would be beneficial to do so.

  • Publication number: 20230300589
Abstract: The system receives a SIP call from a UE associated with a user, where the SIP call includes multiple fields, and where a field among the multiple fields indicates that the SIP call is the open-line call. The system receives a first indication that the UE associated with a callee has generated a notification to the callee of the SIP call. Upon identifying the SIP call as the open-line call and receiving the first indication, the system sends a first message to the UE associated with the caller that the UE associated with the callee has generated the notification. The first message indicates to the UE associated with the caller to generate a first inaudible notification indicating that the UE associated with the callee generated the notification.

  • Publication number: 20230300588
Abstract: The system receives a SIP call from a UE associated with the user. The SIP call includes a call setup phase and a data transfer phase, where the call setup phase precedes the data transfer phase. The call setup phase includes an exchange of multiple header fields. The system obtains the multiple header fields from the SIP call. The system determines that the call is an open-line call by identifying an optional field within the multiple header fields, where the optional field indicates that the call is the open-line call. The open-line call indicates that the user of the UE cannot engage in a conversation with a receiver of the open-line call. Upon determining that the call is the open-line call, the system notifies an operator receiving the SIP call to not engage in an audible conversation with the user.

  • Patent number: 11758051
Abstract: Described herein are techniques, devices, and systems for providing an optimal voice experience over varying radio frequency (RF) conditions while using EVS audio codecs. A user equipment (UE) may adaptively transition between using a music-capable EVS codec (e.g., EVS-FB) as a default audio codec that provides a first audio bandwidth and a different EVS audio codec that provides a second audio bandwidth that is less than the first audio bandwidth. The transition to the different EVS audio codec may occur in response to determining a value indicative of a RF condition associated with a serving base station is less than a threshold value, which allows for providing preserving at least a minimal level of voice quality in degraded RF conditions.

  • Patent number: 11751018
Abstract: A connection between a user equipment (UE) and an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) can become disrupted due to network-side issues with the IMS, an access network, or a core network. The UE can initiate a watchdog timer to determine when a previously-established IMS connection may be unusable due to such a network-side issue. If the watchdog timer expires, for example because the IMS does not reply to a message sent by the UE before the watchdog timer expires, the UE can toggle an airplane mode on and off. Toggling airplane mode on and off can deactivate and then re-activate a transmission interface of the UE, and cause the UE to establish a new usable connection with the IMS that may not be affected by the network-side issue that disrupted the previously-established IMS connection.

  • Patent number: 11700215
Abstract: A first user equipment (UE)—during a real time text (RTT) communication session with a second UE—may make a control function available to a local user of the first UE, who may invoke the control function to break up his/her RTT content within organized conversation bubbles. In an example process, after displaying first text character(s)—which was input by the local user—within a first conversation bubble designated for the first UE (or the local user thereof), the first UE may detect an invocation of the control function, followed by additional user input requesting to type one or more second text characters. Invocation of the control function prior to the additional user input requesting to type the second text character(s) may cause the first UE to display the second text character(s) within a second conversation bubble designated for the first UE, rather than the first conversation bubble.

  • Patent number: 11700290
Abstract: Techniques and systems for selectively implementing a silent retry procedure after a voice session has moved from a preferred IP-based system (e.g., 5GS) to a legacy IP-based system (e.g., EPS) are disclosed. The silent retry procedure may be implemented by a UE and/or by a TAS using one or more specific error codes and/or timeouts. In this manner, after a voice session has been redirected or handed over from a preferred system (e.g., 5GS) to a legacy system (e.g., EPS), and based on an issue arising that prevents the voice session from being successfully established thereafter, the UE or the TAS may reattempt to establish the voice session directly in the legacy system, instead of allowing the UE to transition back to the preferred system (e.g., 5GS) after a session failure in the legacy system, which increases the overall success rate of establishing voice sessions.

  • Publication number: 20230199113
Abstract: While a first UE is engaged in an active call with a third UE, the first UE may receive an incoming call from a second UE. An option is presented on a display of the first UE to place this incoming call on hold. In response to receiving touch input selecting the option to place the second UE on hold, one or more communications may be sent to the second UE on hold, such as interactive or non-interactive video or audio. As a result, the call experience may be enhanced. In particular, the user of the first UE may no longer incur the stress that comes with either having to flip back and forth between calls or make a decision whether to decline an incoming call. And the user of the second UE may be more likely to wait on hold until the first call has ended.

  • Publication number: 20230179984
Abstract: Techniques for enabling real time translation and transcription services between users that have contacted emergency services and PSAP operators who are coordinating the emergency services are discussed herein. For example, a system determines that the user and the PSAP operator speak different language, are unable to effectively hear each other, or are otherwise struggling to communicate effectively. The system can determine that an augmentation of the communication session is to be provided and can initiate translation or transcription services via network edge computing resources. The network edge computing resources are configured to generate the augmented communication data and enable the communication network to merge the augmented communication data and the original communication data in real time.

  • Patent number: 11665212
Abstract: Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to timer-initiated fallback. In an example method, a message associated with Quality of Service (QoS) sensitive services is received from a core network. In response to receiving the message, a timer is initiated. If the timer expires without having received a confirmation that a dedicated tunnel associated with the QoS-sensitive services has been established in the first core network, then a fallback process can be initiated.

  • Publication number: 20230138211
Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically managing the states (e.g., enabling/disabling) of telecommunication services/features are disclosed. To do so, the system associates parameters (e.g., timers) with the impacted services/features. For example, when a user experiences issues with voice calls, he/she calls the telecommunications service provider (carrier) to help resolve the issue. A customer care representative may ask the user to temporality turn off the VoNR service to help alleviate the issue. When the user turns off (or toggles off) the VoNR service on his/her mobile device, the system can start a configurable timer (parameter) for the VoNR service. In this manner, the system can replace the conventional toggle on/off feature with a time-based feature. The system monitors the timer's value and when the timer's value reaches a target value (e.g., 24 hours, 1 week, etc.), the system alerts the user that the VoNR service will be turned on (or toggled on).
