  • Patent number: 6897282
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of forming a polyphenylene ether resin containing residual aliphatic unsaturation. A polyphenylene ether is reacted with a capping agent in a solvent to form the polyphenylene ether resin containing residual aliphatic unsaturation, which is precipitated from solution by combining the solution with an antisolvent. The precipitated polyphenylene ether resin containing residual aliphatic unsaturation has lower levels of residual impurities than the same compound isolated by devolatilization.

  • Publication number: 20040214980
Abstract: A UV-curable composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a crosslinking agent, a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, and an acrylic polyol. The crosslinking agent is selected from the group consisting of multifunctional isocyanates, melamines, and silanes. The acrylic polyol comprises recurring units of an allylic alcohol. The composition can be irradiated to be solidified and then fully cured by the urethane, melamine, or silane reactions. Alternatively, the composition can be cured by the urethane, melamine, or silane reactions, and then fully cured by radiation. The invention provides low VOC but high performance coatings. More importantly, the invention provides a UV-curable system without the need for acrylated oligomers.

  • Publication number: 20040137251
Abstract: This invention is directed to an adhesive resin composition having better processability, exhibiting reduced B-staged (partially cured) friability, and capable of being produced in a wide range of flow characteristics dependent upon the applications desired. Specifically, the composition, comprising a poly(arylene ether)-polyvinyl resin and curable unsaturated monomer, is applied to a metal foil or thermoplastic substrate or a free-standing film. The thermoplastic substrate may have an electrically conductive metal, such as copper, on one side. Better final film properties can be achieved by tailored functionality of cross-linking by control of ingredients and/or chain length (molecular weight) of ingredients used in making the novel adhesive composition.
