  • Publication number: 20070140210
Abstract: Various aspects of a system for decoding control channels using repetition redundancy based on weighted bits may include a processor that enables receipt of a current encoded information block from a signal received wirelessly via a control channel. The processor may also enable computation of an adjusted encoded information block based on the current encoded information block and at least one previous encoded information block that is weighted. Aspects of the corresponding method may include receiving a signal wirelessly via a control channel. A current encoded information block may be received from the received signal. An adjusted encoded information block may be computed based on the current encoded information block and at least one previous encoded information block that is weighted. The control channel may be a slow associated control channel (SACCH) channel.

  • Patent number: 7184416
Abstract: Techniques are provided for reducing the magnitude of echo tails in a near-end modem. The invention may use an echo tail canceller to generate a signal that cancels echo tail. One characteristic of the echo tail canceller may be determined during a time when only the near-end modem is scheduled to transmit signals. Another characteristic of the echo tail canceller may be determined at approximately the time that a body echo canceller has reached convergence and may be re-determined periodically thereafter. The near-end modem may subtract from any received signal an echo tail canceller signal generated by the echo tail canceller to cancel echo tail from the received signal.

  • Patent number: 6970524
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems that generate symbol delay times. By receiving a communication signal using a plurality of antennas, a set of respective communication channels can be characterized. The characterized channels can be then used to determine sets of forward-time delays and time-reverse delays using a minimum-mean-square-error technique. By selecting the set of delays that can provide a lower mean-square-error in an equalizer, symbol estimation can be improved as compared to a system that only estimates delays in a single temporal direction.

  • Publication number: 20050031025
Abstract: Methods and systems provide for operating a modem receiver such as an ADSL modem receiver. As incoming data signals are received, a decoding scheme is selected from a plurality of decoding schemes based on a predetermined downstream data rate. In one approach a soft receiver architecture of an ADSL modem is able to select between relatively complex decoding schemes and relatively simple decoding schemes based on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

  • Publication number: 20050031026
Abstract: Methods and systems provide for operating a modem system having a transmit functionality and a receive functionality. The transmit functionality is implemented in hardware and portions of the receive functionality are implemented in software. In one approach, the receive functionality is partitioned between the software and the hardware based on a resource budget of a computer associated with the modem system.

  • Publication number: 20040252647
Abstract: RF communications received by a wireless terminal from a servicing base station are used to determine the BEP. These RF communications may be in the form of RF bursts that are part of a data frame. The signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the RF burst is determined and a sequence of soft decisions from the RF burst are extracted. The SNR maps to an estimated BEP based upon the modulation format and coding scheme of the RF burst. The soft decisions decode to produce a data block. When the soft decisions decoded favorably, the re-encoded data block produces a sequence of re-encoded decisions. Comparing the re-encoded decisions to the soft decisions yields a re-encoded bit error (RBER). When the decoding is unsuccessful, the BEP is estimated only upon the estimated BEP derived from the SNR. Otherwise, both the estimated BEP and RBER may be used to determine the BEP.
