  • Patent number: 5555331
Abstract: Device for connecting at least one optical fiber to at least one integrated-optics waveguide which is formed within a substrate at a predetermined distance from one of the faces of the substrate constituting a reference plane, including a receptacle (2) capable of receiving the terminal portion of the optical fiber (8) and a planar support (3) capable of receiving the substrate (9) applied against said support (3) through its reference plane (9a), the receptacle (2) and the support (3) being arranged in such a manner that the axis of the waveguide (10) and the axis of the optical fiber (8) are situated in one and the same plane parallel to the reference plane (9a) of the substrate (9).

  • Patent number: 5312468
Abstract: The invention relates to optical fiber cleavage method making it possible to obtain an oblique optical fiber end face, consisting in holding a segment of optical fiber between two separated supports, in displacing one of said supports with respect to the other, and in causing the cleavage of the fibre in a break zone dictated by an onset of breakage made by means of a tool, such as a blade. The fiber (4) is held embedded in said supports (1, 2) without exerting any stress on it, in particular any traction or torsion, one of the supports (1) is displaced solely in translation along an axis perpendicular to the axis of the fiber (4) whilst holding the other support (2) fixed, and the onset of breakage is made either before, during, or after said displacement of the movable support.

  • Patent number: 4792205
Abstract: A ferrule of a connector for single-mode optical fibers with polarization maintenance is provided and comprises a tubular outer body which has at its front end a wall that is conical in profile, an inner cylindrical elements inside which an optical fiber can be immobilized, particularly by gluing, said inner element protruding from said end of the outer body, said outer body comprising radial holes for the insertion of devices such as piercers for mechanically centering the inner element in the outer body. The connector includes a socket (18) attached in rotation around said body (1) and means (2) for immobilizing said socket, preferably by gluing, on said body, said socket being, moreover, equipped with an indexing reference (19).

  • Patent number: 4787700
Abstract: The invention relates to an attenuator for single-mode optical fibers entailing two male ferrules attached to the end of the fibers to be connected, and a female access coupler in the central part of which is a spherical thrust bearing body. A transverse axial orifice is provided in the thrust bearing body and a contact projection engages each of the male ferrules. Each male ferrule has an axial tubular protuberance that can be inserted into the orifice of the thrust bearing body and an annular groove set back from the protuberance and surrounding the back part of the latter, which groove has a wall, preferably conical in profile.
