  • Patent number: 7672412
Abstract: A receiver and associated method estimates a channel impulse response of the communications signal. A communications signal is received as a burst of transmitted symbols, including a known training sequence. The joint estimation of timing offset and initial channel impulse response is determined based on the cross-correlations of the known transmitted symbols and received communications signal. A constant modulus interference removal iteration is applied to improve the initial channel impulse estimation.

  • Publication number: 20080208805
Abstract: A computer readable storage medium includes executable instructions to receive a report document at a report query engine. The report document includes a definition of a report. The report document is processed to extract a remote location for a data source driver for the report. A request for the data for the report is transmitted via a consumer across a communication channel to the remote location. The data is received. A report instance is created from the data. The report instance includes the data processed in accordance with the definition of the report.

  • Publication number: 20080192870
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for the receive part of a receiving station, such as a mobile station or other transceiver of a cellular communication system. Selection is made of filter characteristics to be exhibited by an adaptive, input noise whitening filter. A noise estimator estimates a noise component of a noise sequence. An autocorrelation estimator estimates the noise-component autocorrelation. A determination is made as to whether the autocorrelation exceeds a threshold. If so, filter characteristics are selected to cause the input noise whitening filter to operate to inject whitening noise into the received sequence.

  • Publication number: 20080188183
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for a receiving station, such as the receive part of a mobile station, that has diversity antennas. The receiving station includes both legacy demodulators and a diversity demodulator. Calculations are made to determine signal indicia associated with the signal energy detected at the diversity antennas. Responsive to the signal indicia, selection is made as to whether to utilize demodulation data, demodulated pursuant to a diversity demodulation technique or pursuant to a legacy demodulation technique. As the characteristics of received signals change, reselection of the demodulation is correspondingly made, such as on a frame-by-frame basis of frame-formatted data.

  • Publication number: 20080133983
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for estimating a bit error rate of data communicated to a receiving station of a digital communications system, such as a GSM/EDGE cellular communication system. Soft decision values, indicative of confidence levels that decided values have been correctly decided are compared with threshold values by a comparator. A count is accumulated by a counter to whose counted value is representative of decided data values having associated therewith low levels of confidence that the decided values are correct. The count value is used in the formulation of the BER estimation.

  • Publication number: 20080114927
Abstract: A scanner controller includes a cache, a scan manager, and a memory controller. The scanner manager receives image data from an image sensor and caches the image data in the cache. The memory is coupled to a dynamic random access memory (DRAM). When the image data in the cache reaches a predetermined amount, the memory controller outputs a row address strobe (RAS) to activate a row of the DRAM. Two different column address strobes (CAS) are then output to activate columns of the DRAM for moving at least two sets of data from the cache to the DRAM while the row is activated.

  • Patent number: 7356434
Abstract: This invention discloses a method of specifying pin states for a memory chip having one or more pins. In one embodiment of the invention, the pins are prioritized to obtain a pin order, wherein the pin state of a pin of a higher order dominates the pin state of a pin of a lower order. A number of possible combinations of the pin states are generated for the pins based on the pin order. The possible combinations are presented using a data presentation format. At least one pin of a higher order dominates at least one pin of a lower order when the at least one pin of a higher order is set in a predetermined pin state, such that the number of the possible combinations presented is reduced by neglecting combinations generated by the pins states of the dominated pins.

  • Publication number: 20070254612
Abstract: One illustrative method of scanning a radio frequency (RF) band (e.g. 850 MHz band) for valid RF carrier signals of a wireless communication network (e.g. a GSM network) includes the steps of monitoring an RF channel to receive a candidate RF carrier signal; identifying whether the candidate RF carrier signal is a valid RF carrier signal of the wireless communication network by estimating a bandwidth of the candidate RF carrier signal and, if the estimated bandwidth is different from a predetermined bandwidth associated with valid RF carrier signals of the wireless communication network, identifying that the candidate RF signal is not a valid RF carrier signal of the wireless communication network; and repeating the acts of monitoring and identifying for a next RF channel of a plurality of RF channels associated with the wireless communication network. Preferably, the RF bandwidth estimation is performed together with a system signal detection process (e.g. FCCH detection).
