  • Patent number: 11570630
Abstract: An electronic device may receive installation information about an environment of the electronic device. For example, the installation information may include a type of installation of the electronic device, such as one of: installation on a wall, installation on a pole, installation in a stadium, or installation in street furniture. Based at least in part on the installation information, the electronic device may select a group of antenna patterns that includes a subset of potential antenna patterns. Then, the electronic device communicates, via an interface circuit in the electronic device, one or more packets or frames for another electronic device using an antenna pattern in the group of antenna patterns. Note that the electronic device may determine the antenna pattern to use in subsequent communication. Moreover, the group of antenna patterns may be selected based at least in part on an orientation and/or a location of the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20220182125
Abstract: An access point that performs dynamic selection of an electronic-device-specific receive antenna pattern of an antenna for use when receiving a frame from an electronic device in a WLAN is described. In particular, during operation the access point may determine the receive antenna pattern of the antenna that is used when receiving the frame from the electronic device. Then, the access point may store, in memory, information that specifies the receive antenna pattern. Moreover, when the access point predicts that the electronic device will transmit a frame to the access point within a subsequent time interval, the access point may select the receive antenna pattern and may set an antenna pattern of the antenna to the receive antenna pattern. Next, the access point may receive the frame from the electronic device using the receive antenna pattern.

  • Patent number: 9369388
Abstract: Embodiments generally provide techniques for load balancing data transmitted between line cards across a network fabric. Embodiments receive, at a first line card within a modular Ethernet switch, data to be transmitted to a second line card within the modular Ethernet switch. A mask table is accessed using a value corresponding to the second line card as an index in order to retrieve a mask value. Embodiments select one of a plurality of links for the first line card for use in transmitting the data, based on a load balancing algorithm and the retrieved mask value. The data is then transmitted to the second line card using the selected link.

  • Patent number: 7848245
Abstract: An improved mechanism for analysing connection establishment/teardown process or identifying failure points (i.e. nodes) in a PNNI network through the use of a novel debug IE (information element) that is propagated along the communication path for a given connection to activate diagnostic functions on targeted switching devices. The mechanism comprises a method that is initiated by embedding a debug information element (IE) in a data packet that is propagated to various switching devices (the nodes) along the communication path. The debug IE is encoded such that it will be recognized by selected switching devices along the path, but ignored by other non-selected switching devices. Further encoding identifies targeted switching devices that are suspected to be possible failure points to confirm that they are functioning properly.
