  • Publication number: 20230405520
Abstract: An apparatus for capturing carbon dioxide has a membrane separator with a gas inlet, a gas outlet, a channel that extends between the gas inlet and the gas outlet, and pores configured to permit carbon dioxide to pass therethrough, the gas inlet being connected to receive a mixed gas that contains carbon dioxide, wherein carbon dioxide in the mixed gas exits the membrane via the pores, and a remainder of the mixed gas exits the membrane separator via the gas outlet. The pores may be functionalized with nano-particles. A container is filled with an aqueous solution includes a carbon capturing agent and the membrane separator is submerged within the aqueous solution. The carbon capturing agent may be produced by a membrane reactor upstream of the membrane separator. Carbon dioxide exiting the membrane separator via the functional pores reacts with the carbon capturing agent to produce a carbon negative compound.

  • Patent number: 5582732
Abstract: A method of treating waste water is described. Firstly, providing specially acclimatized microbial consortia with relatively low sensitivity to changes in pH and changes in temperature, such that the microbial consortia is capable of metabolizing contaminants efficiently within a predetermined broad pH range and broad temperature range. Secondly, maintain the microbial consortia in a space limited and a substrate limited mode within an immobilized bioreactor operating within the predetermined pH range and the predetermined temperature range. Thirdly, introduce waste water with liquified insoluble organic contaminants into the immobilized bioreactor. The organic contaminants are metabolized by the microbial consortia working under space limited and substrate limited conditions, thereby treating the waste water with a minimal sludge production rate.

  • Patent number: 5534143
Abstract: A microbubble generator is disclosed for optimizing the rate and amount of xygen transfer to microbial inocula or biocatalysts in bioreactor systems. The microbubble generator, and an associated immobilized cell reactor, are useful in the detoxification and cleanup of non-volatile polymeric and volatile organic-contaminated aqueous streams. In particular, they are useful in the continuous mineralization and biodegradation of toxic organic compounds, including volatile organic compounds, associated with industrial and municipal effluents, emissions, and ground water and other aqueous discharges. One embodiment of the invention includes a microbubble chamber packed with small inert particles through which a liquid effluent and oxygen or another gas are admitted under pressure, followed by a venturi chamber to further reduce the size of bubbles.
