  • Patent number: 4696211
Abstract: A punch press has a punch support and die support which are rotatable about a common vertical axis, and a drive mechanism for rotating and effecting the reorientation of the tooling relative to the X and Y axes of the punch press. In this fashion, rotation of the tooling will enable reorientation of single cutting surface, and location of various of the differently contoured cutting surfaces at the desired cutting position to effect cutouts of different contours or angular orientation in a workpiece relative to the X and Y axes. The punch has a cutting portion which is of a cross section providing at least one arcuate cutting surface A.sup.1 defined by the radius R.sup.1 and at least one rectilinear cutting surface A.sup.2. In accordance with one embodiment, the punch tooling is desirably of elongated cross section with a length L in its elongated axis and a width W in its transverse axis which is less than 1/2 L.

  • Patent number: 4384621
Abstract: A device for cutting an edge of a workpiece comprising, a drive head having a carrier, a support bracket connected to the drive head for fixing the drive head with respect to the working piece edge, a tool holder reciprocately movable in and by the drive head, an impact cutting tool connected to the tool holder for cutting the workpiece edge, and a guide sleeve rotatably mounted but fixable in position in the carrier for guiding the motion of the cutting tool. The guide sleeve is rotatable to rotate the cutting tool and bring different edges thereof into a cutting position. Depending on the shape of the cutting tool, a plurality of edges are provided which can be changed as they become dull by rotating the guide sleeve. The axis of a cutting end of the impact tool can also be offset from an axis of the sleeve and an axis of a clamping end of the cutting tool connected to the tool holder to vary the depth at which the edge of the workpiece is cut.

  • Patent number: 4104940
Abstract: A nibbling machine comprises a workpiece support which is driven by separate drive motors in longitudinal and transverse directions to shift the workpiece during the times at which it is not contacted by a punch which is arranged to reciprocate over the workpiece and to contact it and effect the nibbling thereof. A rotary control member is rotated in timed relationship to the means for driving the punch and it is connected to each of the motors for driving the workpiece support in a manner to start and stop these motors when the punch is raised off the workpiece for feeding the workpiece. The rotary member advantageously drives through an eccentric of adjustable magnitude to a fluid piston movable in a cylinder to displace a control fluid selectively to an oil volume dispenser which supplies oil to each of the fluid drive motors for operating the workpiece support in the transverse and longitudinal directions.

  • Patent number: 4089244
Abstract: A stamping or nibbling machine, comprises a workpiece support or means for engaging the workpiece at a spaced location from a punch which reciprocates upwardly and downwardly in respect to a die in order to effect the stamping or nibbling of the workpiece. The support is mounted on a transverse bar which is pivotable about a transverse guide and the guide is carried on a carriage which is pivotable about a longitudinal guide. The workpiece is fed by holding the bar and the carriage against pivotal movement and driving them in the respective longitudinal direction when the punch is lifted off the workpiece. The rate of this feed may be controlled in timed relationship to the movement of the punch so that the feed takes place when the punch is off the workpiece and in a speed of feed which is determined in accordance with the torque acting on the transverse bar and the carriage when they are released for pivotal movement and sensed by associated torque meters.
