  • Patent number: 4369286
Abstract: Modified aminoplast resins based on melamine and formaldehyde or urea and formaldehyde, which contain, as modifiers, methylolmelamines having a molar ratio of melamine to formaldehyde of 1:3 to 1:6, which are etherified with mono-alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in a ratio of melamine to alcohol of 1:2 to 1:6. These resins are used, in particular, for the production of decorative, glossy-surface laminations.

  • Patent number: 4277532
Abstract: A thermally-expandable sealant for joints, cavities or holes, which foams in the event of a fire and thereby effects a seal, comprising as a carrier a fleece or fabric made of glass or plastic, which is coated with a composition based upon expandable graphite and containing, per 100 parts by weight of expandable graphite, 10 to 30 parts by weight of polychlorobutadiene, 1 to 40 parts by weight of an alkylphenol/formaldehyde resin and 1 to 3 parts by weight of stabilizers known per se, and optionally, up to 30 parts by weight of inorganic fibers and up to 80 parts by weight of aluminium hydroxide. A process for sealing joints, cavities or holes using the sealant is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4272430
Abstract: Additive for inorganic binders, such as cements, calcium sulfate, magnesia cement and the like, which comprises, as the active ingredient, a water-soluble salt of a mixed resin consisting of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid, urea, melamine and formaldehyde, the molar ratio, in the resin, of aromatic aminosulfonic acid to the total amount of melamine and urea being (0.2 to 1.0):1.0 and the molar ratio of melamine to urea being from 0.75:0.25 to 0.30:0.70, and also building materials, having increased flowability and early strength, in which this additive is present.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Chemie Linz Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Stefan Pieh, Hubert Czepel
  • Patent number: 4176217
Abstract: Production of foamed plastics with improved combustion characteristics by condensing aqueous solutions of aminoplast precondensates with at least bifunctional organic isocyanate whereby an acid curing catalyst and an accelerator for polyurethane formation is used. For performing the condensation, the aqueous solution of the precondensate is added to the mixture of isocyanate and the accelerator at the same time as but separately from the acid curing catalyst.
