  • Patent number: 5267904
Abstract: A universal joint (1) has two joint yokes (2 and 3) each including two yoke arms (4 and 5). A supporting member (8) including legs (9 and 10) is arranged to extend transversely relative to the rotational axis (D) of the joint yokes (2, 3). The connection of the two joint yokes (2 and 3) is effected through yoke arm through-bores (6 and 7) and the support member bores (11 and 12) via a bearing pin (13).

  • Patent number: 5054594
Abstract: The invention is directed to a freewheel clutch which transmits torque in two directions of rotation and controls the blocking pawls by control rings which are held back by friction rings ounter to the rotary motion and by guide extensions and pivot journals of blocking pawls guided in radial slots in guide extensions which move the blocking pawls out of or into engagement with the assigned support recesses of the inner part into a disengaged or engaged position. While, for instance, the one blocking pawl is moved into the torque transmitting position, simultaneously, the other blocking pawl is moved out of the position permitting torque transmittal. This assures a short response travel and with it a rapid switchover from the one driving direction to the other without interfering with the freewheeling motion.

  • Patent number: 4960344
Abstract: A locking mechanism for fixing an outer part (5) on an inner part (4) having locking members (8) which are guided in apertures (7) of the outer part so as to be radially movable in a limited way. In the locking position, these locking members (8) are supported radially outwardly on a locking ring (10). A control ring (16) retains the locking ring in the open position. For this purpose, the control ring (16) is displaced eccentrically and is supported on a stop (19) associated with the outer part (5). By inserting the inner part (4), the control ring (16) is aligned coaxially by the control members (8) so that a spring (12) loading the locking ring (10) can act to move the control ring (16) across the stop (19) so that the locking position is achieved.

A locking sleeve (14) is movable on the coupling sleeve (7) to lock the locking members (12) against movement or release them. A latch arrangement is provided to latch the locking sleeve in its release position during connection. The latch arrangement includes a stop (24) extending inwardly from the locking sleeve (14) and engageable with a stop (19) on the coupling sleeve (7) by tilting the locking sleeve on the coupling sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4802326
Abstract: An overload coupling for the protection of drive trains on machines, particularly agricultural machines powered by a tractor, protects against overloading in at least one rotational direction. A coupling sleeve is mounted for rotation around a coupling hub of the overload coupling. Relative rotation between the hub and sleeve is about a coupling axis. A plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses are provided in the coupling hub which each contain a rotatably mounted rotor. The rotors are mounted about their own rotor axes which are parallel to but spaced apart from the coupling axis. Each rotor contains a radially movable driver cam which is spring-loaded and has cam surfaces for engaging detent grooves in the sleeve. With the driver cams engaged in the detent grooves, relative rotation between the hub and sleeve is resisted. By shaping the cam surfaces and adjacent abutment surfaces of the driver cams, the direction and force of disengagement can be set between the coupling hub and coupling sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4781652
Abstract: A Hookes joint comprising a cross member (10) and yokes (12) has respective lubricant bores (22, 24 and 26, 28) formed in journals (14, 16 and 18, 20) of the cross member. Leaf springs (48, 50) are located within the respective throughbores to project outwardly of the ends thereof into nonrotatable engagement with bearing cups (30, 32), each nonrotatably secured within ends of a yoke. Each bearing cup permits rotation of an associated cross member journal therein whereby, upon relative rotation between the cross member and a yoke, a respective leaf spring (48 or 50) rotates within the throughbore (22, 24 or 26, 28) causing a wiping or sweeping action of the spring within the lubricant in the bore thereby ensuring that the bore does not become constricted. Uniform distribution of lubricant to the bearing cups is thereby assured.

  • Patent number: 4639162
Abstract: In a mechanism for connecting together in torque transmitting engagement a coupling sleeve and a power takeoff shaft, particularly in agricultural implements, there is provided a drawing lock which may be arrested in the open position. The drawing lock includes a locking ring which holds a plurality of radially movable torque transmitting balls in their locked position during torque transmission of the assembly. A slotted spring ring is provided which engages the torque transmitting balls to hold them radially inwardly thereby to arrest the device in the open position. When a power takeoff shaft is inserted into the bore of the coupling sleeve, the torque transmitting balls are moved radially outwardly and, as a result, the slotted spring ring resiliently expands in diameter thereby to cause a first stop face of the ring to become disengaged from a supporting face of a supporting ring which is axially affixed to the coupling sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4639163
Abstract: A drive shaft having an annular groove is placed in driving connection with a coupling sleeve by engagement members which constitute spherical balls radially movable within apertures in the coupling sleeve for engagement within the annular groove of the drive shaft. A locking ring engaging around the engagement members holds them in the locked position within the annular groove and when the mechanism is in the unlocked position, the locking ring is held axially away from the locked position by a latching member which engages within the apertures of the coupling sleeve to hold the locking ring in the unlocked position against the biasing force of a spring. A guide ring affixed to the coupling sleeve guides the locking ring by means of a gripping sleeve affixed thereto for movement relative to the coupling sleeve axially and nonrotatively with the guide ring including apertures through which the latching member engages when it is moved between the latched and the unlatched positions.

  • Patent number: 4437553
Abstract: A freewheeling clutch assembly wherein pawl members are mounted for pivotal movement in one of a driven and driving member of the clutch assembly and wherein ratchets are formed in the other member. When the driven member overruns the driving member, pivotal movement of the pawls causes their disengagement with the ratchets and the clutch will freewheel. When the driving member commences again to overrun the driven member, resilient annular means interposed between the members will cause the pawl members to be pivoted back into their torque transmitting position.
