  • Patent number: 6840537
Abstract: A vehicle steering wheel assembly having a molded armature with outwardly extending spokes for mounting on a steering column. Airbag engagement members extend from an airbag module housing to engage corresponding hub engagement members. The airbag module rests on a multiple of switch assemblies while the engagement members are separated by a clearance. The engagement members are only in contact if the airbag is fired. A clearance between each hub engagement member and each corresponding airbag engagement member assures that there is no interference that may result in undesirable noise or vibration.

  • Patent number: 6830263
Abstract: A method for installing an airbag assembly within a steering wheel assembly includes locating an airbag module engagement member with a corresponding armature engagement member. Once aligned, an operator presses downward on the airbag cover until switch engagement members engage their corresponding switch assembly receivers within the airbag cover. A clearance is formed between each armature engagement members and the corresponding airbag module engagement members when the module is mounted to the molded armature. Thus the switch assemblies support the airbag module.

  • Patent number: 6618680
Abstract: The present invention comprises a hand held, battery operated water current velocity measuring device designed for use with contact closure water current meters. The apparatus differentiates and amplifies incoming DC signals generated by the current meter into both AC and DC signals, which are then sent to a microprocessor. The microprocessor, using operations research processing, samples and evaluates both signals to determine if a contact closure has occurred (e.g., when the current meter has completed a revolution) and to distinguish an actual contact from external voltage or spurious noise pulses. Once the microprocessor has verified the occurrence of a contact closure, the microprocessor alerts the operator to the contact closure. The information may be transmitted via FM band radio frequency to one or more appropriately tuned FM radios.

  • Patent number: 6586760
Abstract: A method and system are provided for determining the level of a body of water, whether free flowing or stationary. Positionable mirrors are located at an area adjacent to but spaced from the body of water. The mirrors direct a laser beam at an angle to true vertical onto the surface of the body of water such that a portion of the beam is reflected from the surface. A receiver is located at a known distance from the mirrors on the opposite side of the body of water and in a common horizontal plane. The receiver receives a reflected laser beam and redirects the beam to a signal detector. A controller for the mirrors determines the angle to true vertical at which the mirrors are set after receiving an output from the signal detector. A simple calculation, based on the determined angle and the known distance between the mirrors and the receiver is then made of the distance from the common horizontal plane to the water surface so as to determine the water level.

  • Patent number: 6545286
Abstract: A method and system are provided for determining the level of a body of water, whether free flowing or stationary. A rotatable reflective element is located at an area adjacent to the body of water. The reflective element is driven by a rotating motor shaft and includes a reflective surface extending 45° to the shaft axis. Rotation of the reflective surface provides scanning of a laser beam directed axially thereon. During scanning, the beam is directed at an angle to true vertical onto the surface of the body of water such that a portion of the beam is reflected from the surface. A detector array, located on the opposite side of the body of water and in a common horizontal plane with the reflective element, produces an output after receiving the reflected beam. A controller arrangement, including a counter which begins counting when-the scanned beam is vertical and which stops counting when a signal corresponding to the array output is received, determines the scan angle to true vertical.

  • Patent number: 6530593
Abstract: An airbag has a front part facing a vehicle occupant and from two back parts facing away from the vehicle occupant. The two back parts have a larger surface than the front part. The back parts each have a first portion which is dimensioned in such a way that the two first portions of the back parts jointly correspond to the front part in terms of shape and size. The two back parts are connected along the free edges of their first portions to the front part along the outer circumference of the latter. The back parts have second portions that extend essentially transversely to the front part and are connected to one another along their outer edges. The connection of the second portions of the back parts is interrupted at least in one portion to form a gas inlet orifice.

  • Publication number: 20020169568
Abstract: The present invention comprises a hand held, battery operated water current velocity measuring device which provides more reliable measurements than conventional devices. Designed for use with contact closure water current meters, the proposed apparatus differentiates and amplifies incoming DC signals generated by the current meter into both AC and DC signals, which are then sent to a microprocessor. Utilizing OR processing, the microprocessor samples and evaluates both signals to determine if a contact closure has occurred (e.g., when the current meter has completed a revolution) and to distinguish an actual contact closure from external voltage discharges or spurious noise pulses. Upon verification of the occurrence of a contact closure, the microprocessor alerts the operator of that contact closure. Means are also provided for transmitting the information via FM band radio frequency to one or more appropriately tuned FM radios.

  • Patent number: 6017058
Abstract: An airbag has two cloth layers disposed next to each other and connected with each other in their outer marginal area. One of the cloth layers has an inflation gas inlet opening. The two cloth layers er are connected with each other by at least one tear seam, which at least partially encloses the discharge opening. The tear seam extends away from the discharge opening and is configured so as to tear open when the airbag is inflated by starting at an end of the tear seam that is closest to the inflation gas inlet opening.
