  • Patent number: 5019228
Abstract: An electropolishing method for decontaminating component parts in nuclear facilities includes enriching deionized water with an electrolyte that can be processed by a water processing plant present in the nuclear facility in order to assure electrical conductivity, and electropolishing with the deionized water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 28, 1989
Date of Patent: May 28, 1991
    Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Robert Weber, Hubert Stamm
  • Patent number: 4756768
Abstract: Chemical decontamination of metallic parts of nuclear reactor installation in which an oxidative treatment with a permanganic acid solution is applied before dicarbonic acids are used for further treatment. Rinsing operations are eliminated and smaller amounts of dicarbonic acids needed. Also the primary system of the nuclear reactor no longer requires emptying before effecting decontamination treatment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1986
Date of Patent: July 12, 1988
    Assignee: Kraftwerk Union Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Horst-Otto Bertholdt, Hans Hirning, Rudolf Papesch, Hubert Stamm
  • Patent number: 4632740
Abstract: Apparatus for performing a method of decontaminating metallic components of a nuclear engineering installation by electropolishing with electrodes and an electrolyte liquid travelling in a circulatory loop during the decontamination, including a filter having a pore width of at most 1.5 .mu.m, the electrolyte liquid being an aqueous solution having an electrolyte concentration of at most 20 percent by weight.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1984
Date of Patent: December 30, 1986
    Assignee: Kraftwerk Union Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Hermann Operschall, Hubert Stamm
