  • Patent number: 7402954
Abstract: A high-pressure discharge lamp (1) having a quartz glass discharge vessel (2) enclosing a discharge space (3) with an ionizable filling, wherein a first electrode (4) and a second electrode (40) are present between which a discharge is maintained during lamp operation, wherein a first seal (5) incorporates a first internal electric conductor (6) which connects the first electrode (4) to a first external electric conductor (7) extending from the seal (5) into the exterior, wherein said first seal (5) further incorporates a gas-filled cavity (10), wherein the internal electric conductor (6) is a foil which extends through the cavity (10), and wherein the foil (6) is provided with at least one hole (11).

  • Patent number: 7176630
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp (1) provided with a discharge vessel (2) made of quartz glass which encloses a discharge space (3) having an ionizable filling and an electrode (4). The discharge vessel (2) is provided with a seal (5) which preferably encloses an Mo foil and forms a feedthrough for an electric conductor (6) to the electrode (4). At the location of the foil, the seal (5) has a gastight sealed cavity (10). According to the invention the cavity (10) is free of a capacitive coupling. This improves reliable ignition.

  • Patent number: 6563267
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp provided with a discharge vessel made of glass which encloses a discharge space having an ionizable filling and an electrode. The discharge vessel is provided with a seal which encloses an Mo foil having knife edges and forms a feedthrough for an electric conductor to the electrode. At the location of the foil, the seal has a gastight sealed cavity and a first antenna on the outer side of the cavity. Preferably, a second antenna is placed at the neck where the seal is connected to the discharge vessel. This reduces both hot restrike voltage and hot restrike delay.

  • Patent number: 6498439
Abstract: A ballast for feeding a high-pressure discharge lamp. The ballast: supplies the lamp with an AC voltage at an ignition frequency (fi) during an ignition period (ti), supplies the lamp with an AC voltage at a glow frequency (fg) during a glow period (tg) following the ignition period (ti), repeats the start-up sequence of ignition period and glow period (ti, tg), supplies the lamp with an AC voltage at an operating frequency (fb) during an operating period (tb) following the last start-up sequence, and interrupts the power supply to the lamp in a start-up sequence, not being the last start-up sequence, during an interruption period (td) following the glow period (tg).

  • Patent number: 6400087
Abstract: A short-arc discharge lamp (1) is provided with a light-transmitting, gastight lamp vessel (10), which is provided with an ionizable filling. A first electrode and a second electrode (11a, 11b), respectively, are arranged in the lamp vessel (10) and are each connected to a current conductor of their own (12a, 12b), respectively, which issues from the lamp vessel to the exterior. An ignition antenna (2) is arranged near the lamp vessel, which ignition antenna is connected to a further current conductor (24). The ignition antenna comprises an antenna vessel (20) and a further outer electrode (22), which antenna vessel (20) is closed in a gastight manner and provided with an ionizable filling, the further outer electrode (22) being connected to the further current conductor (24). The antenna encloses an electroconductive element. In this way, very small ignition delays are guaranteed, even if the lamp has been in a dark environment for some time.
