  • Patent number: 5170563
Abstract: A shaving unit for a shaver is provided comprising a shear plate and a cutting member, one of the cooperating surfaces being covered with a friction-reducing layer comprising carbon and metal in an atomic ratio between 50.1/49.9 and 99.9/0.1.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 23, 1989
Date of Patent: December 15, 1992

  • Patent number: 4828728
Abstract: Layers of carbon with a thickness ranging from 10 nm to 10 .mu.m with a diamond-like crystalline structure in a vacuum under a protective atmosphere, but also in atmospheric conditions, represent an excellent dry lubricant which is characterized by a very low coefficient of sliding friction (.mu..congruent.0.01 to 0.1) and also by a very high abrasion resistance. The adhesion of the carbon layer to bearing surfaces can be improved by an intermediate layer between the lubricating layer and the bearing surface. The intermediate layer preferably has a lattice structure similar to that of the lubricating layer.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 9, 1989
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
    Inventors: Heinz Dimigen, Hubertus Hubsch
  • Patent number: 4525417
Abstract: A workpiece comprises a substrate having a sliding surface provided with a friction-reducing coating. Such coating consists essentially of elemental carbon dispersed in a matrix formed of at least one metallic element in the proportions of 50.1 to 99.1 at % of the elemental carbon and 0.1 to 49.9 at % of the metallic element. The ratio of the metallic element to the elemental carbon differs from the stoichiometric ratio of the carbide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 24, 1983
Date of Patent: June 25, 1985
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
    Inventors: Heinz Dimigen, Hubertus Hubsch
  • Patent number: 4264027
Abstract: The driving arrangement for a magnetic tape is comprised of a drive shaft having a smooth surface and a pressure roller having a high surface friction coefficient. The circumference of the drive shaft is provided with a thin layer of the borides, nitrides or carbides of a hard metal, which increases the friction resistance of the shaft. This measure reduces the slip, without affecting the proper uniform travel of the tape.

  • Patent number: 4119483
Abstract: A method of structuring oxide layers, nitride layers or magnetic layers in such manner that a photolacquer mask is manufactured on a substrate and the layer to be structured is provided by means of cathode sputtering both on the photolacquer mask and on the surfaces of the substrate not covered with lacquer. The substrate is then treated with a solvent attacking the lacquer mask; the mask swells up and the parts of the layer to be structured present thereon are chipped off. In order to stimulate this latter process, a layer is provided below the photolacquer mask on the substrate relative to which photolacquer has a small adhesive capacity and, after providing the layer to be structured, an increase in volume of the lacquer mask is produced by thermal treatment. After the complete removal of the photolacquer mask and the parts of the layer to be structured present thereon, the structured thin layer remains on the substrate as a negative of the pattern of the photolacquer mask.
