    Abstract: An electrical card connector (7) includes a shell (1), an insulative body (2), a plurality of contacts (3) mounted in the insulative body, an ejection mechanism (4) and a polarization mechanism (5). The shell covers the insulative body and the contacts. The ejection mechanism is mounted in the insulative body, and includes a slide block (40). The polarization mechanism includes a guiding groove (16) defined in the shell and an elastic piece (50) attached to the slide block. The elastic piece has an engaging portion (504) and a blocking portion (506). The guiding groove forms a blocking edge (166) to catch on the blocking portion. A correctly inserted card accepts the engaging portion in the card's notch (60), whereas an incorrectly inserted card pushes the blocking portion into the blocking edge of the guiding groove.

A blocking tab (104) extends into a groove (113) defined in one side of the housing. The ejecting mechanism accommodated in the groove includes a slide block (141) which can slide along a direction of insertion of an electrical card (2). The slide block has a support arm (143). An elastic arm (160) attached to the support arm has an arcuate engaging portion (163) oriented toward an inside of the connector. When the card is correctly inserted into the connector, the engaging portion is received in a notch (20) of the card. When the card is wrongly inserted, the engaging portion is pushed outwardly by a lateral edge of the card and blocked by the blocking tab.

The polarization mechanism is formed with the shell and includes an elastic portion (147) and a stop (148). The polarization mechanism prevents an electrical card (2) from being incorrectly inserted into the connector. When the card is correctly inserted into the connector front end first, the stop is moved by the elastic portion away from a path of the card. When the card is incorrectly inserted into the connector rear end first, the stop prevents the card from being fully inserted into the connector.

The fixed contact comprises a fixing panel (521) and a resilient contact portion (522). The cantilever is downwardly moveable by the electrical card to engagingly push outwardly the resilient contact portion of the fixed contact.

    Abstract: A smart card connector for receiving a smart card comprises a spring switch to detect full insertion of the smart card. The spring switch includes a first spring contact and a second spring contact. The first spring contact comprises a body portion, a resilient contact portion and a fixing portion. The second spring contact comprises a body plate and a fixing portion. When a smart card is inserted the connector, the resilient contact portion of the first spring contact is deflected rearward to contact the second spring contact. Thus, force exerted on the contact portion of the first spring contact is transmitted to the fixing portion of the first spring contact with small deformation.

    Abstract: A card connector (1) has a U-shaped insulative frame (20), a number of terminals (40), a top metal shell (10) and a bottom metal shell (30). The frame has a transverse base (21) and two perpendicular arms (22, 23). The terminals are retained in the base. The top shell has a plurality of locking holes (17) and the bottom shell has a plurality of locking elements (37) corresponding to the locking holes. The locking holes and the locking elements engage with each other, thus the top shell and the bottom shell interlock each other and enclose the frame therein. A card-receiving space (29) is defined between the shells. In use, the card connector can be embedded in a cutout (21) of a printed circuit board (2) for a smaller thickness thereabove.
