    Abstract: A sample collection device comprising a support bearing an inert absorbing matrix for a fluid sample is described. The device may or may not have a lancet. Also described for a sample device is a method of using a mass spectrometer in a laboratory where the sample in its matrix is ionised and the plurality of elements is detected. The results may or may not be quantised in relation to the original sample and an internal ionised reference sample may also be used.
