  • Patent number: 5242356
Abstract: An apparatus for exercising and/or toning the muscles of the waist, hips and thighs of a user, comprises an e.g. circular support (1) for the user to sit upon, the support (1) resting at its center on a mount (2) which enables the support to tilt in selected radial directions relative to a vertical axis. The support (1) may be arranged so that its periphery rests on a base (3) and the point of contact between the support (1) and a base (3) moves in a circle around the base as the user causes the direction of tilt to progress around in a circle by a circular movement of the hips. In a modified apparatus a drive means is provided to cause the direction of tilt of the support to progress around in a circle.

  • Patent number: 4113469
Abstract: A method is provided for refining molten metal containing an impurity which is oxidizable in preference to one or more selected constituent elements of the metal and which forms a gaseous oxide, the method comprising injecting oxygen and a diluent gas into the molten metal contained in a vessel so as to reduce the proportion of the impurity in the metal by evolution as the gaseous oxide, weighing the vessel during refining to establish a point at which the weight of the vessel contents changes significantly due to preferential oxidation of the one or more selected constituent elements, initiating at the point a reduction in the ratio of oxygen: diluent gas to as to reduce the rate of oxidation of the one or more selected constituent elements relative to the impurity and continuing injection until the proportion of the impurity is reduced to the desired level.
