  • Patent number: 4840525
Abstract: A fastener for use in attaching structural channel members having slots extending along one side of the channel to other channel members or other structural elements. The fastener includes retaining means for holding the fastener in a selected position along the channel slot ready to receive a fastening bolt or the like for connecting the channel member to an additional structural member. The retaining means is designed so that during connection of the structural members the retaining means will be displaced and direct contact between the structural members being attached will be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4784552
Abstract: A special nut is used for affixing parts to a channeled structural member. The nut has an improved positioning means protruding from the top surface of the nut for properly positioning the nut in the channel member.

  • Patent number: 4616799
Abstract: A yieldable highway swing sign is described which swings out of the way when struck by farm equipment or other objects such as wet snow from snow plows. The sign has a torsion bar which returns the sign to its original position after being struck. The sign has notches in its hinges to maintain its original position. The notches resist any displacement forces by providing an inclined plane of 40.degree. which must be overcome before the sign is displaced in an arc pivoting around the torsion bar. The displacement of the sign is limited to a 90.degree. displacement from the original position by the configuration of the hinges and is helped by the increased torque created by the torsion bar as the sign swings further from its original position.

  • Patent number: 4575295
Abstract: A fastener for attaching fixtures to channeled structural members has an extended bolt engaging section which increases the load carrying capacity of the fastener. The fastener, with the extended section, can be used in channeled structural members of limited depth as well as the standard channeled structural members without sacrificing the load carrying capacity. The extended section has an alignment feature which will align the flanges of the channeled structural member with the grooved flange engaging means of the fastener permitting the use of the fastener in channeled structural members having widths greater than standard members.

  • Patent number: 4277923
Abstract: A support pedestal assembly for a raised floor system can be used with metal panels or wood core panels, can be used with or without grid members, and can be used with brace members for resistance to vibration and seismic shock. The support pedestal assembly includes a pedestal base, a vertical, adjustable height support column coupled to the base, and a pedestal head coupled to the top of the support column. The pedestal head includes a center region for coupling to the support column and four arms, each having an aperture therethrough, extending outwardly from the center region. In one configuration, the arms form a 45 degree angle with the edges of the floor panel and a downwardly extending projection near the corner of the floor panel mates with the aperture in the arm to locate the panel on the pedestal assembly and to prevent horizontal movement. A floor panel corner locator can be mounted in the center region of the pedestal head for use in conjunction with the wood core floor panels.

  • Patent number: 4278228
Abstract: Support structures for highway signs and barricades include collapsible assemblies which cause the structure, upon impact by a vehicle, to rotate away from the impact without flying apart. The collapsible assemblies utilize a connector fixture to couple a first member to a second member. The connector fixture includes a pivot pin which provides an axis of rotation for the second member and shear pins which hold the second member in a fixed orientation until the application to the second member of an impact. The impact fractures one of the shear pins and the second member rotates about the pivot pin away from the impact. Single post and multiple post support structures are disclosed. A support structure having two vertical members collapses to a flattened position when struck from any direction. The vehicle passes over the flattened support structure. In an alternate embodiment, the support structure rotates upward upon impact and passes over the vehicle.
