  • Patent number: 4977657
Abstract: The fragmentation jacket of a projectile or shell should be prefragmentized in the simplest possible manner by means of reference fracture locations provided at the inner side or interior surface of the fragmentation jacket. For this purpose, the reference fracture locations are impressed into a disk, for example, by stamping. Subsequently, the thus formed disk is shaped by deep drawing to form a fragmentation jacket such that the reference fracture locations formed by grooves are located at the inner side or interior surface of a cup-shaped fragmentation jacket. This cup-shaped fragmentation jacket is filled with an explosive charge which is detonated by a base fuze or by a tip or point fuze.

  • Patent number: 4723490
Abstract: The base fuze of a spinning projectile possesses a detonator capsule which is pierced by a firing pin. The firing pin is connected to a hammer sleeve. An inertia body is arranged behind the hammer sleeve in order to improve the response sensitivity of the base fuze. Upon impact of the projectile at the target, the inertia body, due to the inertia thereof, drives the firing pin conjointly with the hammer sleeve against the detonator capsule. This inertia body is subdivided into a number of sector-shaped portions which contain substantially cylindrical sections and truncated conical sections. A bore of a fuze housing within which the inertia body is arranged possesses a shoulder. This shoulder serves to support the truncated conical sections of the inertia body such that due to the spin of the projectile an axial force is produced which acts upon the inertia body causing it to impact against the hammer sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4389938
Abstract: Within a cylindrical container or canister, closed at both ends by a respective cover member, there is located a flare or illuminating rocket. For firing the flare rocket it is sufficient to remove the rear cover and by pulling at a tear line there is activated a tear ignition device or fuze. The ignited flare rocket then pierces the front cover member. This front cover member preferably possesses a ring-shaped or annular reference fracture location which subdivides the cover member into a disk-shaped inner portion and a ring-shaped outer portion.

  • Patent number: 4226185
Abstract: A projectile having a payload, a first brake system and a second brake system at one side of the payload. A first explosive charge and a second explosive charge, separated from one another by a drive disk, are arranged at the other side of the payload and surrounded by a hollow projectile jacket. In order to render as simple as possible the construction of such projectile and in order to make available for the payload as large as possible part of the cross-section of the projectile, there is provided a latching or locking location at the projectile jacket for a container and the payload. The container and payload can remain in the projectile jacket as long as the initially effective brake system brakes the projectile. For slowly lowering the payload with the other brake system the payload leaves the latching location and thus the projectile jacket.
