Patent number: 10530318Abstract: An audio system having a variable reset volume, and a method of conditionally resetting a volume parameter, are described. The audio system can include a processor to generate an audio signal for a speaker to convert into a sound. A volume parameter of the audio signal can be set before a user pauses playback of the audio signal. The processor can determine that the volume parameter is outside of a resting volume range, and that the user resumes playback of the audio signal at least a selected interval after pausing playback. The processor can responsively reset the volume parameter when playback is resumed to a different level based on one or more acoustic factors, such as an audio decay time of a surrounding environment. The different level can be within the resting volume range. Other aspects are also described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2018Date of Patent: January 7, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Richard M. Powell, Kshitij S. Deshpande, David Chance Graham, Hugo Verweij, Afrooz Family

Patent number: 10024682Abstract: The present disclosure relates to techniques for managing navigation alerts. The disclosure generally describes an exemplary technique whereby a first device, such as a smartphone, coordinates the timing or sequence of alerts for a navigation instruction on the first device and on a second device, such as a smartwatch. In some examples, the second device presents an alert to a user indicating an event condition has been met before the first device presents a different alert to the user indicating that the same event condition has been met. The alert presented on the second device and the different alert presented on the first device are spaced apart in time by at least a predetermined delay time period, where the predetermined delay time period is based on the event condition. The alert at the second device allows the user to anticipate the alert at the first device.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2017Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Christine McGavran, Joshua Weinberg, Marcel Van Os, Hugo Verweij, Jeffrey Meininger, Eric L.
