Patent number: 9333236Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of treating leukemia using rice prolamin, comprising administering a daily dose of isolated prolamin to a patient suffering from leukemia for a period of time from 5 days to 10 days. For the treatment application, the rice prolamin can stimulate human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) to produce cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, to inhibit growth of and induce differentiation of human leukemia cells. The rice prolamin is gluten-free, thus will not trigger gastrointestinal allergic reaction, it also can decrease the tumor weight without changes in body weight and can inhibit the growth of peripheral blood leukocyte in leukemia mouse model.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2014Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: MACKAY MEMORIAL HOSPITALInventors: Yu-Jen Chen, Hui-Fen Liao, Yu-Yawn Chen

Publication number: 20110183918Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of treating leukemia using rice prolamin, and a pharmaceutical composition for treating leukemia, comprising an effective amount of rice prolamin together with one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or excipients. For the treatment application, the rice prolamin can stimulate human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) to produce cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, to inhibit growth of and induce differentiation of human leukemia U937 cells. The rice prolamin is gluten-free, thus will not trigger gastrointestinal allergic reaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2010Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicant: MACKAY MEMORIAL HOSPITALInventors: Yu-Jen Chen, Hui-Fen Liao, Yu-Yawn Chen

Patent number: 7950624Abstract: A water valve apparatus includes a housing and a control valve stem. The housing has a spacer to divide the interior space and a base with a plurality of water outlets formed thereon. The spacer has a first opening. The base has a second opening corresponding to the first opening. The spacer and base are interposed by a displacement track. The displacement track has at least one first anchor zone and one second anchor zone. The valve control stem runs through the first opening and second opening, and has a water stopper located in the first opening and an anchor ring movably coupled thereon. The anchor ring has at least an anchor stub in the displacement track. The valve control stem is operable easily to allow users to determine water supply. No excessive contact with water faucets is needed. Thus the risk of bacteria contagion can be minimized.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2008Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Inventor: Hui-Fen Liao

Publication number: 20070232690Abstract: Disclosed is a medical composition for inducing differentiation of leukemic cells, which can induce leukemic cells to differentiate into monocytes and macrophages, and block the abnormal proliferation of leukemic cells through a PKC-independent pathway. In addition, the medical composition cans also downregulate c-myc gene expression in the leukemic cells, and upnregulate c-fms, c-fos and c-jun gene. The medical composition comprises a compound represented by the general formula (I) shown below: wherein R1, R2, and R3 represent —H, a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and R4 represents —H or a benzyl group.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2006Publication date: October 4, 2007Applicant: Mackay Memorial HospitalInventors: Yu-Jen Chen, Hui-Fen Liao, Yueh-Hsiung Kuo
