    Abstract: An improved spring-energized stapling machine comprises a body, an actuating arm which is secured to the body to pivot about a pin, a movable fitting and a driving pin extending through an end portion of a tongue on the arcuate arm and through arcuate slots in the body. When the actuating arm is in its original position, the driving pin will be at the lower end of the arcuate slots and contacts the fitting so as to move the fitting away from a base of the body.

The said impelling device, slidably mounted on an impelling ram and spring-energized, drives said hook-nail forward in a trough formed by said magazine and a U-shaped base until it is set against a check device for an adjacent bent driver to drive it out into the target surface.

    Abstract: In a spring-energized stapling machine according to the invention, some provisions are included for extending the function of the machine and preventing any harm possibly caused by the abuse of the machine. These provisions comprise a check plate which can be adjusted to obstruct the operating handle of said stapling machine, a movable fitting serving as a backing plate for paper-fastening in one state and as a safety shield to prevent the driving of staples in an other state, and which can be moved to allow conventional ejection of staples, two different systems of measuring scales engraved on both sides of the foot of said machine, and a novel staple supply which possesses two sets of grooves to accept staples of different sizes and, at its rear, means for staple removal.
