  • Publication number: 20150104594
Abstract: A textile reinforcement, in particular a knitted, spiraled, stranded, braided, linear or woven textile reinforcement including aramid yarn, which yarn is continuous yarn and provided with a finish including mono- or dialkyl phosphate ester or a mixture thereof, which finish is free of compounds with alkoxy groups; and wherein the mono- or dialkyl phosphate ester finish has the formula: wherein R1 is branched or straight-chain C1-C15 alkyl, R2 is H, Li, Na, K or NH4, or branched or straight-chain C1-C15 alkyl, and M is Li, Na, K or NH4. The textile reinforcement may be used for making hoses, tubes, (flexible) pipes, optical fiber cables, power cables, fiber-reinforced composites and ballistic resistant articles.

  • Publication number: 20120238165
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of core-shell particles with a mean diameter of 10-300 nm and a standard deviation ? at least 10% of the mean value, and wherein the shell of the core-shell particle comprises a copolymer of vinyl aromatic monomer and maleimide monomer with a glass transition temperature Tg of between 120 and 220° C. for coating a yarn or fabric to inhibit or prevent wicking in said yarn or fabric. The invention further relates to an aramid fabric, such as boat sails, which yarns are provided with a finish comprising a diglycehde or a triglyceride obtained from glycerol that is esterified with saturated or unsaturated fatty acids with 6-20 carbon atoms and are then provided with the core-shell particles.

  • Patent number: 8031996
Abstract: A method for making a flexible fibrous continuous tape containing 60 to 98 wt % fiber based on the weight of the tape, from multifilament yarn selected from aramid, glass, aromatic polyester, and rigid rod polymer, comprising the steps: a1) spreading the filaments of the yarn to obtain a filament layer having a cross sectional aspect ratio (w/h) of 2 to 2000; and b1) treating the spread filaments with a curable resin, or a liquid thermoplastic resin or wax; or a2) treating the yarn with the curable resin, or the liquid thermoplastic resin or wax; and b2) spreading the filaments of the yarn to obtain a filament layer having a cross sectional aspect ratio (w/h) of 2 to 2000; followed by c) fixating the filaments by curing or solidifying the resin to obtain the tape, wherein steps a1-b1, respectively a2-b2, and c are performed in-line.
