  • Publication number: 20200399486
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for single pass printing on an absorbent non-white substrate. The method comprises: (a) applying a primer composition to one or more selected surfaces of an absorbent non-white substrate to form a primer layer to seal the selected surfaces of the substrate, (b) drying the primer layer, (c) printing a white ink on the primer layer, and (d) drying or curing the white ink. The present invention also relates to low odor radiation curable white ink compositions. The white ink composition comprises 10-40% w/w of 4-hydroxybutylacrylate, 0.5-10% of a urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer, 10-55% of diacrylates, one or more photoinitiators, one or more additives, and one or more white pigments. The composition excludes many monofunctional monomers that have distinct odor and are commonly used in an ink jet composition.

  • Patent number: 9790388
Abstract: A radiation-curable ink composition for application to glass, ceramic, or metal by an inkjet printer. The ink composition can be applied to a glass, ceramic, or metal substrate to decorate, protect, etc. the substrate. In some embodiments, the ink composition includes a glass frits component, a chromophore component, and a UV-curable component. The glass frits component facilitates the fusing of the ink component with a glass, ceramic, or metal substrate to which the ink composition is applied. The chromophore component is the primary colorant of the ink composition. The UV-curable component facilitates activation of polymerization upon exposure to ultra-violet (UV) radiation, which causes the ink composition to cure and fix/pin to the underlying substrate. After the ink composition is applied to a substrate and cured by exposure to UV radiation, the substrate is heated to a temperature that causes the ink composition to fuse with the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20120142809
Abstract: A radiation curable ink composition comprising a color base, one or more stabilizers and one or more surfactants, one or more photoinitiators, and a reactive component. The reactive component includes at least one monofunctional monomer including at least one aromatic constituent of greater than 5 weight percent, at least one monofunctional component with vinyl functionality, and an oligomer. Other aspects include a process for curing ink of such a composition, and a substrate prepared by such a process. Some benefits of this particular composition of ink include improved flexibility, better adhesion, and expedited curing.
