Abstract: A method and apparatus which allows the mobile user to subscribe to Customized Image and Ring Tone (CIRT) service providing them access to a CIRT server to pre-define a customized image or ring tone to be played to a called party, and sends the pre-defined image or ring tone to the called party during alerting when a call is made from the mobile user is provided. The CIRT subscriber can download images or ring tones from internet web site to CIRT server, create their own via digital camera/camera phone then send them to CIRT, or choose existing ones that are available in the CIRT server. The CIRT subscriber then selects a specific image or ring tone for a specific phone number through access to the CIRT server via the Internet or a phone call. When the subscriber calls a number that is predefined with a CIRT, the call will be routed to CIRT server first and then to the called party.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for improved, or optimized, handling of paging requests to a border switch from neighboring switches. More particularly, a technique is provided to reduce the adverse impact of paging requests on border switches while maintaining a high paging success rate. Data representing probabilities that mobile devices are within selected coverage areas, or cells, of the border switch is collected and maintained. The data is used as a basis to more efficiently page mobile devices throughout the selected coverage areas, or cells, of the border switch.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for secure voice communication are provided. More particularly, the present techniques are directed to the introduction of voice security for mobile-to-mobile calls. The coding and decoding is accomplished by handset vocoders, in lieu of coding and decoding accomplished by the network. In this regard, when voice security is determined to be necessary, users select a secured transmission protocol and communicate the selection to the network. All coding and decoding is then performed only in the handsets, as opposed to the network. Moreover, the vocoders implemented, in at least one form, employ security encryption, so that only the two connected mobile users are able to understand the content of the voice transmission.

Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for notifying a previously unsuccessful mobile calling party of a mobile called party's availability, in which a home location register causes an announcement to be sent to the unsuccessful calling party indicating that the called party is currently unavailable and that the calling party will be sent a short message when the called party becomes available. The called party status is then monitored and once the called mobile becomes idle or active, the HLR facilitates, utilizing a short message service center, sending a short message to the caller indicating that the called party is available to receive a call.

Abstract: Wireless networks and associated methods are disclosed that provide a child call log service. A communication network of the invention comprises a network node and a child call log system. The network node serves calls for a mobile device of a child, and records call information for the calls of the child connected over the wireless network. The child call log system stores the call information for the calls in a call log for the child. A parent of the child is able to access the call information for the child by transmitting a request for the call information to the wireless network through a mobile device. The child call log system receives the request and accesses the call log for the child to identify the call information. The child call log system then provides the call information for the child to the mobile device of the parent.

Abstract: Communication networks, phones, and associated methods are disclosed that provide library services to users of phones. A phone displays a library search screen to a user, and the user enters one or more library search parameters. The phone generates a request message that includes the library search parameter(s), and transmits the request message to a communication network (e.g., a wireless network or a VoIP network). A library server in the communication network receives the request message, and queries a library database based on the library search parameter(s). The library server receives library search results from the library database, and determines the type of response (e.g., text message, email message, etc) for the library search results. The library server then formats the library search results based on the determined type of response, and transmits the response to the user.

Abstract: A system and method for providing Custom Ring Back Tones (CRBTs) to calling party terminals calling called party wireless terminals in a wireless communications network is provided. A Gateway Switching Node connected provides a centralized interface between the PSTN and the switching nodes serving the called party terminals.
