    Abstract: A method for photo-reforming a polymer. The method comprises contacting the polymer with an aqueous solution comprising a base and an alcohol, elevating the temperature, contacting the polymer with a nanocomposite, adjusting the pH of the aqueous solution to a more acidic pH, contacting the nanocomposite with radiation, and oxidizing the polymer. The nanocomposite may comprise a metal oxide semiconductor and a transition metal catalyst. The radiation may be solar radiation. The aqueous solution may be adjusted to a neutral pH.
