  • Publication number: 20090135122
Abstract: A liquid crystal display and a pre-charging method thereof for pre-charging data lines using a ESD circuit to simplify a circuit configuration are provided. In the method, video lines receiving video signals are floated in a pre-charge interval of time. A pre-charge voltage is supplied to the video lines floated via a static electricity proof circuit connected to the video lines. The pre-charge voltage on the video line is pre-charged by a demultiplexer for making a time-divisional driving of the data lines in a video charge interval of time.

  • Patent number: 7479415
Abstract: A method for fabricating a polysilicon silicon liquid crystal display device is disclosed in which a contact hole connecting source and drain electrodes to an active layer is formed without a stepped portion. An insulation layer containing a porous silicon nitride layer is formed. Wet etching the contact hole through the porous silicon nitride layer and an underlying silicon oxide layer does not generate the stepped portion as the etch rates of the porous silicon nitride layer and the silicon oxide layer are the same. Because the stepped portion is not generated at a contact hole, disconnection of source and drain electrodes formed in the contact hole is prevented, thereby preventing deterioration of the liquid crystal display device from occurring.

  • Publication number: 20090011550
Abstract: A flat panel display device (FPD) and fabricating method thereof are disclosed, which reduce the number of masks during fabrication and prevent electro-chemical corrosion problems. In the FPD, a cell area and a pad area are defined on a substrate. A storage electrode traverses an active layer in parallel to a gate line. Source and drain regions of the active layer in the vicinity of both sides of a gate electrode are not formed below the storage electrode. An insulating interlayer over the substrate has first and second contact holes on the source and drain regions, respectively. A source electrode contacts the source region via a first contact hole and a drain electrode contacts the drain region via a second contact hole to directly contact a pixel electrode. A protective layer is disposed over the substrate including the pixel electrode.

  • Patent number: 7423712
Abstract: Disclosed is a trans-reflective type LCD device and a method for fabricating the same wherein the method reduces the required number of masks by using a half-tone mask and a diffraction exposure process. Further, by using a half-tone mask and diffraction exposure process, a desired uneven surface may be formed on the reflective part of the pixel region without resorting to thermal processes that may otherwise degrade an insulating layer under the reflective electrode. Accordingly, an organic insulating material may be used between the transmissive electrode and the reflective electrode.

  • Patent number: 7405776
Abstract: An LCD is fabricated using a diffraction mask with transmissive, semi-transmissive, and opaque regions. The semi-transmissive region permits formation of a transmission, reflection, or pixel electrode, depending on the type of LCD being fabricated, using the same masking process as that to produce contact holes in an insulating film and a conductive layer. Photoresist exposed through the semi-transmissive region is partially removed during developing that completely removes photoresist in the transmissive or opaque region. The contact holes are formed in the region in which the photoresist is completely removed, the photoresist and underlying conductive layer in the semi-transmissive region are then removed, and the remaining photoresist is stripped.

  • Patent number: 7280174
Abstract: A transflective liquid crystal display includes gate and data lines perpendicular to each other and defining a plurality of unit pixels. Each unit pixel includes a plurality of sub-pixel regions, which each have a transmissive portions and a reflective portion. The transmissive portions are gathered together within each unit pixel at corners of the sub-pixel regions opposing corners in which thin film transistors near the crossings of the gate and data lines are disposed. A passivation layer covering the thin film transistors and the gate and data lines has an opening that corresponds to the transmissive portions in the unit pixel. A reflector is formed over the passivation layer in each sub-pixel region and corresponds in position to the reflective portion. A pixel electrode in each sub-pixel region contacts the thin film transistor through a contact hole in the passivation layer.
