    Abstract: Two embodiments of reciprocating machines such as four cycle, internal combustion engines wherein the piston, connecting rod, crankshaft and crankcase are interrelated in such a way so as to function as a positive displacement compressor. The connecting rod serves as a valving element for the intake passage to the crankcase chamber and in one embodiment, the crankshaft functions as the valving member for the discharge passage from the crankcase chamber. An embodiment that permits pressure control by bypassing the compressed charge back to the intake passage is also described.
