  • Publication number: 20180348959
Abstract: A display may have an array of pixels. The pixels may contain light-emitting diodes. When it is desired to use the display to operate as a light sensor, some of the light-emitting diodes may be forward biased to emit light while some of the light-emitting diodes are reversed biased to detect the emitted light after the emitted light has reflected from an external object. During light sensing operations, one or more areas of the display may be temporarily deactivated so that the light-sensing pixels may measure the reflected light. Vertical lines may serve both as data loading lines and as current sensing lines. Currents may be sensed during drive transistor current compensation and during light sensing. The vertical lines may load signals into the pixels that forward bias the light-emitting diodes to emit light when it is desired to display images for a user.

  • Patent number: 10134334
Abstract: In order to reduce non-uniform luminance and/or chrominance, a display panel can determine, on a pixel-by-pixel basis in at least a row of pixels, a correction for voltage drops in the display panel. The voltage drop can be estimated based on a state of pixels in the display panel corresponding to at least a portion of a current frame of image data and at least a portion of a previous frame of image data. Moreover, based on the correction, the display plane can modify on the pixel-by-pixel basis in at least the row: a supply voltage applied to the display panel; a digital representation of the image data in the current frame that correspond to the pixels; and pixel drive signals corresponding to the image data in the current frame. Furthermore, the correction may be based on a predefined calibration constant and/or may be dynamically calculated.

  • Patent number: 10089931
Abstract: An electronic device that includes a display is provided. The display may have a brightness that is controlled using a series of cascaded digital-to-analog converter circuits. The display may be calibrated at a series of predetermined display brightness settings. For display brightness settings that fall between two consecutive display brightness settings in the series of predetermined display brightness settings, voltage interpolation operations may be performed to obtain the corresponding display brightness settings. Performing voltage interpolations instead of digital brightness setting interpolation helps minimize luminance jumps and unexpected color shifts when adjusting the brightness of the display.

  • Publication number: 20180158173
Abstract: A display device may include a display having a pixels and a processor. The processor may receive image data, determine a digital offset value for a pixel based on a location of the pixel, such that the digital offset value compensates for one or more non-uniformity properties of the pixel. The processor may determine a scale factor associated with the pixel based on at least two of a luminance setting for the display, a driving mode of the display, and a gray level value for the pixel. The processor may then generate correction image data by applying the scale factor to the digital offset value, generate compensated image data based on the correction image data and the image data, and provide the compensated image data to the display.

  • Patent number: 9953581
Abstract: This application sets forth a circuit configuration for a light emitting diode (LED) or organic light emitting diode (OLED) display. The circuit configuration allows for the pulse-width modulation (PWM) of each emission signal sent to each line of the display. The PWM of each emission signal is accomplished using a gate-in-panel (GIP) controller of the display. The GIP controller uses an arrangement of shift register outputs and a programmable clock input to control an output of an inverter that provides the emission signal. The programmable clock input can be programmed according to a desired timing or duty cycle for the emission signal. In this way, by limiting the duty cycle of the emission signal, dimming and other display features can be exhibited by the LED or OLED display.
