  • Patent number: 7229948
Abstract: The present invention involves an exhaust gas catalyst and method of manufacturing same. The invention provides for a cost-effective material which lowers the cold-start emissions from the exhaust of vehicles. The invention is a passive system which accelerates the light-off temperature of catalyst in a cost-effective fashion. The invention includes a method of manufacturing an exhaust gas catalyst capable of lowering cold-start emissions including the steps of providing an oxide mixture having praseodymium and cerium, doping about 0–10% weight zirconium and about 0–10% weight yttrium to the oxide mixture, adding about 0–2% weight metal including palladium, platinum, or rhodium to the oxide mixture, mixing gamma aluminum to the oxide mixture for washcoating and washcoating the oxide mixture onto a monolithic substrate.

  • Patent number: 6232253
Abstract: A lean-NOx catalyst having a sol-gel processed membrane. The sol-gel processed membrane is loaded with a transition metal. Methods are also disclosed for loading a transition metal on the membrane and reducing emissions in an exhaust stream to provide a NOx reduction system which can operate in a broad range of operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 5772972
Abstract: The invention is an automotive catalyst system for treating internal combustion engine exhaust gases. The system comprises a hybrid system of hydrocarbon trapping material and palladium based three-way catalyst material, the hydrocarbon trapping material being capable of adsorbing hydrocarbons present in said internal combustion exhaust gases and substantially maintaining adsorbance of the adsorbed hydrocarbons until after the palladium based three-way catalyst material reaches a temperature at which it is capable of oxidizing the hydrocarbons. The palladium based three-way catalyst is carried on a substrate, which may be the trapping material, in an amount of between about 100-500 g palladium/ft.sup.3 of substrate.
