  • Patent number: 8792499
Abstract: An example method includes receiving at a scheduling server status information concerning at least one transmit queue for a plurality of optical pass-through switches (OptSws). A schedule for transmissions to take place is determined based on the status information for the OptSws. A control message is forwarded to the plurality of OptSws in order that the schedule may be implemented. In an embodiment, a schedule is determined for a wavelength available to transmit a transmission by removing unsupportable transmissions from a candidate transmission list, determining a first transmission that is the one of the transmissions of the candidate transmission list which most preferably satisfies a given parameter, updating a usage list to reflect determination of the first transmission; and replacing the candidate transmission list with the residue set of the first transmission. The usage list reflects transmissions determined by the scheduler.

  • Publication number: 20140122594
Abstract: A processing platform comprises at least one processing device having a processor coupled to a memory. The processing platform is configured to identify particular metrics that influence user satisfaction with communication services provided by a communication network, and to generate at least one model that relates the identified metrics to user satisfaction scores. The processing platform may be further configured to generate at least one user satisfaction score for a plurality of users of the communication services given specified values of the identified metrics for only a subset of those users. For example, separate user satisfaction scores may be generated for respective ones of the users. Additionally or alternatively, a single per-segment user satisfaction score may be generated for each of one or more segments of multiple users.

  • Publication number: 20140119522
Abstract: A system and method for generating a subscriber churn prediction includes receiving call detail records from a network operator detailing communication between subscribers of the network operator and determining tie-strengths between subscribers based on the call detail records. The system and method further includes generating a net churn influence accumulated at each subscriber from the tie-strengths by propagating churner influence between subscribers due to churn events.

  • Publication number: 20130343224
Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus of providing a non-overlapping ring-mesh network topology which reduces costs (e.g., the number of network links) while providing resiliency to failure and meeting QoS requirements (e.g., network delay attributed to traversing the network architecture). In particular, a set of target nodes belonging to a cluster are connected through N rings. Each node is member of all N rings and no link between nodes in a ring is duplicated in another ring.

  • Publication number: 20130066933
Abstract: A method for deriving a composite tie metric for an edge between nodes of a telecommunication call graph includes receiving descriptive data with original values for descriptive attributes associated with a telecommunication call graph formed by edges between nodes. Each edge relates to two nodes. Each original value relates to an edge and a descriptive attribute forming an edge-attribute pair for the corresponding original value. The descriptive data is stored in a local storage device. Scaling factors for each descriptive attribute are determined taking into account a distribution of the original values for the corresponding descriptive attribute and a common base for the descriptive attributes. Weighting factors are determined for each descriptive attribute. The composite tie metric is computed for an edge based on the original value, scaling factor, and weighting factor for the descriptive attributes.

  • Publication number: 20120078683
Abstract: A method for providing advice to a service provider includes; a) accessing customer, network, and service data stored in disparate data sources, the data relating to services provided to customers by a service provider over a network infrastructure, a virtualization platform presenting the disparate data in a common logical view; b) processing the data in an analytics platform using a service advisor algorithm to form conclusions and predictions regarding management of customer churn and generate advice; and c) formulating results from the processing to enable the service provider to consider the data, conclusions, predictions, and advice in relation to reduction of customer churn. The service advisor algorithm may also be used for personalization of service provided to customers, targeted marketing of services to customers or non-customers, and management of the network infrastructure. An apparatus for providing advice to a service provider includes the virtualization and analytics platforms.

  • Patent number: 7660243
Abstract: Method for admitting new voice calls to a VoIP network. Various points in the network are polled to generate a link utilization parameter. Parameters denoting threshold values of link utilization in the network are compared to the link utilization parameter. A first comparison is made between a first (current) link utilization parameter and first and second link utilization threshold parameters. Then, a second comparison is made between the current link utilization parameter and a second (previous) value of link utilization. A calculation of new calls allowed into the network is performed based on these comparisons and whether the current level of link utilization is rising or falling when compared to a previous level of link utilization.

  • Publication number: 20050052996
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing current voice call quality in an IP network before allowing a new voice call to enter therein. Circuitry in each gateway between a PSTN and the IP network obtains information from the IP network regarding the quality of voice call traffic being transmitted from one gateway to another gateway. A parameter is calculated by the circuitry based on this information. This parameter is compared to predetermined thresholds to guarantee acceptable quality for a new voice call that is attempting to enter the IP network. The circuitry includes three circuits. A first circuit passes voice call data to the IP network. A second circuit polls the IP network about traffic information transmitted therein. A third circuit processes the polled information to determine whether the voice call data is to be accepted by the IP network.
