  • Publication number: 20060099405
Abstract: Polymer composite building materials are provided which contain resin, and about 20-75 wt. % fillers and additives, in which the fillers contain at least one bulk filler for reducing the amount of resin needed to make the building material, and at least one aesthetically functional filler for providing the building material with an aesthetic appearance. The bulk filler and the aesthetically functional filler of this embodiment are non-toxic, resistant to microbial attack, and have a Mohs hardness of less than about 5.

  • Publication number: 20050235599
Abstract: A shingle is provided and its method of manufacture, in which granules are applied to an upper surface of a hardenable coating on a layer of shingle-making material, with granules of different pre-selected visual aesthetics provided in different tab areas, separated by mixtures of granules from adjacent tab areas forming intermediate areas, and in which the intermediate areas are removed to yield slots separating adjacent tabs, leaving visually sharp, precise starting and ending delineations for the tabs of a given aesthetic, that can be the same as or different than the aesthetic of an adjacent tab.

  • Publication number: 20050204675
Abstract: An impact resistant shingle is provided, wherein the base mat is impregnated with an asphaltic material, with an asphaltic material on the upper surface of the shingle, and wherein another asphaltic material is disposed on the rear surface of the shingle, which other asphaltic material is softer with greater elongation than the asphaltic material used elsewhere in the shingle, such that crack resistance is afforded because energy from impact on the shingle is dissipated.

  • Patent number: 4757652
Abstract: A roofing product is provided that has a release film on the back surface thereof, and the release film is split to allow the material to be flopped back; one side is stuck and then the other side is flopped down. The roofing product includes a top surface having roofing granules thereon and wherein a selvedge is provided along the length of the product for overlapping several of them on the roof. An important aspect of the present invention is that the back surface has a silicone coated 2-section release film. The composition of the roofing product consists of polymer-modified bitumen which makes the product self-adhering. There is a fiberglass reinforcement inside the product. The peel-off film on the back surface of the product consists of two separate strips instead of a single strip or film.
