  • Publication number: 20030152758
Abstract: An adhesion promoter comprises a polymeric strand with an epoxy-reactive group other than a phenolic hydroxyl group, and a crosslinking group that crosslinks the polymeric strand with a rubber in a crosslinking reaction, wherein the polymeric strand is water soluble in an amount of at least 10 g/l, and more preferably at least 100 g/l. Particularly contemplated adhesion promoters may further comprise styrene-butadiene-vinylpyridine copolymer, and may advantageously be employed as a replacement for resorcinol-formaldehyde latex in the fabrication of a rubber containing tire. Especially contemplated rubber compositions may additionally comprise maleinized polybutadiene to synergistically improve adhesion of the rubber to a polymeric fiber coupled via contemplated adhesion promoters.

  • Publication number: 20020160188
Abstract: This invention provides security articles comprising fibers, threads and fiber sections (“dots”) possessing multiple verification characteristics. The fibers possess unique and difficulty duplicated combinations of complex cross-sections, components, and multiple luminescent responses. The many verifiable characteristics of the security fibers, threads and dots provide high levels of protection against fraudulent duplication of articles in which they are incorporated. The manifold security features provide means of tailoring specific identity characteristics for specific use and users.

  • Patent number: 5039549
Abstract: Method and apparatus for treating ultrahigh molecular weight, high strength polyolefin to improve its adhesive bonding to a resin such as epoxy, vinyl ester, polyester, polyurethane, polyolefin or thermoplastic rubber are provided. The method includes the steps of soaking the polyolefin in a first solution comprising (i) an aromatic ketone photosensitizer, and (ii) a first solvent selected from the group consisting of a benzene derivative, an alkyl halide, and a cyclic alkane; removing any excess first solvent; coating the surface of the polyolefin with a second solution comprising (i) about 15 to 70 weight percent of a monomer independently selected from the aforementioned group, (ii) about 0.25 to 5 weight percent of an aromatic ketone photosensitizer, and (iii) about 25 to 84.

  • Patent number: 4509598
Abstract: The growth of upward vertical fractures during a hydraulic fracturing process is inhibited or prevented by (1) initiating the fracture with a first fluid which is a pad fluid, and (2) extending the fracture with a second fluid comprising a carrier fluid and a bouyant inorganic diverting agent. The second fluid is preferably pumped at a minimum rate to extend the fracture and carry the diverting agent without screening out. After the diverting agent is implaced, a viscous pad fluid and fracture fluid are subsequently pumped at treatment rates and pressures to complete the fracturing process.
