  • Publication number: 20080107962
Abstract: A secondary battery including: a bare cell including an electrode assembly, a can to receive the electrode assembly, and a cap assembly attached to an opening of the top of the can; a protection circuit board electrically connected to the bare cell, and a molded resin disposed between the cap assembly and the protection circuit board. The cap assembly includes a cap plate attached to the top of the can and having a through-hole, an electrode terminal extending through the through-hole; and a gasket disposed around the electrode terminal. A portion of the molded resin is disposed in a gap between the electrode terminal and an upper surface of the cap plate.

  • Publication number: 20080102364
Abstract: A prismatic can type lithium ion rechargeable battery of the present invention includes an electrode assembly, a prismatic can accommodating the electrode assembly, a cap assembly including a cap plate closing an upper opening portion of the prismatic can. A distortion prevention portion is formed on a side surface of the prismatic can. A safety vent is formed on a side surface of the prismatic can, and includes a weakened portion. The weakened portion is formed outside a periphery of the distortion prevention portion. Accordingly, if can distortion of the prismatic battery is caused by the internal pressure, force acting on the safety vent is concentrated on the weakened portion, breaking the weakened portion. Therefore, the safety vent of the present invention prevents the explosion of the battery or the firing, and improves the safety and reliability of the prismatic can type lithium ion rechargeable battery.

  • Publication number: 20070202364
Abstract: A secondary battery includes a bare cell having an electrode assembly. The electrode assembly has cathode plates, anode plates and separators insulating the cathode plates from the anode plates. The secondary battery also includes a can housing the electrode assembly, the can having an opening for receiving the electrode assembly and a cap assembly having a cap plate sealing an opening of the can, the cap plate having a terminal through-hole, an electrode terminal inserted into the terminal through-hole, and a gasket insulating the electrode terminal from the terminal through-hole. A protective circuit board is coupled to the bare cell and a molding resin molds the protective circuit board with the bare cell. The gasket includes a coupling extension constraining the molding resin at the cap plate.

  • Publication number: 20070154802
Abstract: A secondary battery including an electrode assembly having a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode and a can housing the electrode assembly, the can having an opening on one end. The secondary battery further includes a cap assembly having a cap plate having a terminal hole, the cap plate coupled to the opening of the can, an electrode terminal inserted through the terminal hole, and a terminal plate coupled with an interior end of the electrode terminal. The terminal plate has a placement recess located on an interior-facing surface, the placement recess preventing the interior end of the electrode terminal from protruding past the interior-facing surface of the terminal plate.
