Abstract: A method and system prevents a potential viewer, such as a child, from viewing programming under certain conditions. For example, a programming receiver may be set up to prevent a child from viewing programming having a rating outside of an authorized rating limit, and/or from viewing programming during certain time periods, and/or from viewing any and all programming. When the child wishes to view a desired program, and the programming receiver determines that viewing is not permitted, the child is asked if they wish to seek permission from their parent or guardian to view the desired program. If so, an electronic request is made to a communication device, associated with the parent or guardian, such as a computer, personal digital assistant, cellular phone, or another television. The Request provides the parent with information regarding the desired program, and perhaps the identity of the requester. Hence, the parent can grant or deny permission to view the desired programming, from a remote location.

Abstract: A real-time compensation apparatus and method for a digital TV that can update the present time without addition of a non-volatile memory or RTC. The apparatus includes a first control section for controlling a power supply of a system, updating a time by dividing a system clock, and outputting a reserved recording signal according to comparison result of the present time with a user's reserved recording time; and a second control section for transmitting the reserved recording information stored in a flash memory and the present time to the first control section if the power supply is off, and outputting a load control signal so that output of video and audio is performed according to the signal outputted from the first control section according to the user's reserved recording time.

The method for displaying a menu of a TV includes the steps of selecting a display mode of a TV screen, dividing a display area of the TV screen in accordance with a user's selection, determining a menu display area for displaying a menu element of the TV, and varying the size of the element having a default size in accordance with the size of the menu display area.
