Abstract: A magneto-optical recording medium for short wavelength in which a dielectric layer, a reproducing/recording bilayer made of (Ndx(TbFeCoCr)100−x/(TbFeCoCr) or (NdaGdb(TbFeCoCr)100−(a+b)/(TbFeCoCr), a protective layer and a reflective layer are, in sequence, formed on a substrate, which is superior in magnetic and magneto-optical properties at a short wavelength range in addition to being of high data storage density, high data transfer rates and long data archival capability.

Abstract: A method of initializing a phase transformation-type optical disk. The initialization method includes the steps of: (a) preparing a phase transformation-type optical disk in which a first dielectric layer, a recording layer including a small amount of crystalline structure in a major amorphous structure, a second dielectric layer and a reflective layer are sequentially deposited on a substrate; (b) irradiating a high power laser beam, which is enough to heat the recording layer to a temperature above its melting point, onto the optical disk, thereby transforming the crystalline structure in the recording layer into an amorphous structure; and (c) irradiating a lower power laser beam, which is capable of heating the recording layer to a temperature range above a recrystallization temperature and below its melting point, onto the optical disk, thereby transforming the amorphous structure of the recording layer into the crystalline structure.

Abstract: An optical recording medium is provided in which a first dielectric film, a second dielectric film, a recording film, a reflective film are sequentially stacked on a substrate, said first dielectric film and second dielectric film are formed of ZnO-BN. The optical disk has high recording sensitivity and high thermal stability.
