  • Patent number: 6965951
Abstract: A host may be coupled to a fabric network. Fabric devices attached to the fabric network may be visible to the host through one or more host adapter ports. The host system may include a device centric discovery interface configured to provide an interface to a fabric driver to obtain information about the devices in the fabric network. The device centric discovery interface may be configured to return device centric discovery information such that a multi-path fabric device is presented as a single device with transport information provided for each path to the multi-path device. A device centric configuration interface may provide an interface to the fabric driver for device centric configuration of the devices in the fabric for use by the host such that a requested fabric device is configured for use by the host on multiple paths in the fabric network.

  • Patent number: 6920491
Abstract: A fabric configuration interface may provide for storing multiple configuration repositories identifying different configurations of fabric devices for a host system coupled to a fabric. Each configuration repository identifies one or more fabric devices. The fabric configuration interface may receive a request to online fabric devices according to a specified one of the configuration repositories. In response to such a request, the configuration repository may access the specified configuration repository and request a configuration operation to configure, for the host system, the fabric devices identified in the specified configuration repository according. The fabric configuration interface may provide for requesting that fabric devices listed in a specified configuration repository be onlined or offlined. The fabric configuration interface may also provide for deleting entries from a specified configuration repository.

  • Publication number: 20040015611
Abstract: A host may be coupled to a fabric network. Fabric devices attached to the fabric network may be visible to the host through one or more host adapter ports. An interface may be configured to provide layer-specific device property information. The interface may be configured to obtain device property information for the devices attached to the fabric network from the fabric driver and return the device property information specific to one of the plurality of protocol layers. The protocol layers may include a transport layer and an end device target layer. An application may be any process running on the host that may request information about device properties via an interface (e.g., one or more application programming interfaces (APIs)). These interfaces may be configured to return the layer-specific device property information for multiple layers of device properties.

  • Publication number: 20020194407
Abstract: A fabric-attached device configuration for a host system may be managed in regard to fabric state changes for a host system connected to a fabric. An event may be received indicating a fabric state change for one or more host adapter ports. In response to the event, the host system's fabric device configuration may be dynamically changed. Dynamically changing the host system's fabric device configuration may include bringing online or taking offline one or more fabric devices for the one or more host adapter ports for the host system. In some embodiments, a configuration file may be stored specifying an action to be taken for various types of events. Upon receiving indicating a fabric state change, the configuration file may be accessed to determine the fabric device configuration action to be taken for the type of fabric state change indicated by the event.
