  • Patent number: 8031682
Abstract: An apparatus for aggregating and switching traffic in a broadband subscriber network and methods of processing upstream and downstream traffic are provided. The apparatus includes: an upstream traffic processing unit which stores a plurality of packets received from a plurality of downlinks with respect to each subscriber link, and transmits the packets stored with respect to each subscriber link to uplinks through scheduling; and a downstream traffic processing unit which broadcasts a packet received from the uplinks to the subscriber links via a broadcast bus connected to the respective subscriber links and determines with respect to each subscriber link whether to transmit the packet to subscriber links. It is possible to efficiently aggregate, switch, and broadcast subscriber traffic in a broadband subscriber network in which upstream traffic and downstream traffic are asymmetric.

  • Patent number: 7623453
Abstract: An aggregation switch apparatus for broadband subscribers is disclosed. The apparatus includes: an upstream input buffering unit for buffering packets from more than one subscriber link; a scheduling unit for aggregating the packets to more than one upstream link and scheduling a transfer order; a rate match buffering unit for buffering a transfer rate difference between an output of the upstream input buffering unit and an output of more than one upstream link; a downstream destination identifying unit for identifying a destination of more than one subscriber link of the packets; a broadcasting unit for transferring the packets to terminals of the broadcasting unit; a packet selecting unit for selecting a corresponding packet by identifying a destination port of more than one subscriber link of the packets; and a downstream output buffering unit for buffering the packets outputted from the packet selecting unit to said more than one subscriber link.

  • Patent number: 7397808
Abstract: A multiple input/output-queued(MIOQ) switch is presented. This MIOQ switch comprises a (k,m)-dimensional crossbar fabric having k ingress lines and m egress lines; N input buffers at each input; M output buffers at each output; N×k interconnection networks each of which is able to move a packet from each input to one of the k egress lines; and m×M interconnection networks each of which is able to move the arrived packet at output from the m egress lines to one of the M(wherein M is m or N) output buffers. The multiple input/output-queued(MIOQ) switch according to the present invention requires no “speed-up”. Performance matches the performance of an output-queued switch.

  • Publication number: 20070053353
Abstract: A method of classifying packets by a subscriber and processing classified packet to provide fairness to subscribers is provided. In order to classify the packets by the subscriber, a subscriber identification tag is inserted into a predetermined portion of an Ethernet frame and the packets are classified using the subscriber identification tag. The classified packets are processed based on the classifying result. Accordingly, an intermediate node not directly connected to the subscriber can classify the packets by the subscriber even in an uncontrollably expanded subscriber network. Therefore, the subscriber network is simply and effectively managed while providing the fairness to the subscriber in processing packets and allocating bandwidth.
