  • Patent number: 8304978
Abstract: A light source module includes first and second light sources. The first light source includes a blue light-emitting body emitting blue light and a red fluorescent material disposed around the blue light-emitting body emitting red light by virtue of being excited by the blue light. The second light source is disposed adjacent to the first light source, and includes a green light-emitting body emitting green light. The blue and green light-emitting materials may include a light-emitting diode (LED) chip including substantially the same material. Accordingly, since a variation of light efficiency of the light source module with respect to temperature is small, a color feedback system may be omitted, and color reproducibility may be high.

  • Publication number: 20100188435
Abstract: A method of driving a light source includes: determining a location of pixel data of a display relative to a plurality of light-emitting blocks of a light source, obtaining a plurality of luminance values of the light-emitting blocks corresponding to the location by using a lookup table (LUT) storing the luminance values of the light-emitting blocks, generating a plurality of histograms corresponding to the light-emitting blocks, determining a plurality of target luminance values of the light-emitting blocks using the histograms, and driving the light-emitting blocks using the determined target luminance values. The luminance values of the light-emitting blocks are based on the location of the pixel data within an image block of the display corresponding to each light-emitting block. Each of the histograms indicates a frequency of each of the luminance values of a respective one of the light-emitting blocks.

  • Publication number: 20100039368
Abstract: In a machine-implemented method of local dimming a light source of a light source block for driving the light source block to provide a plurality of image regions with light, duty ratios of a first light source and a second light source adjacent to the first light source are initially determined by using a first target luminance value of a first image region closest to the first light source and a second target luminance value of a second image region closest to the second light source. The initially determined duty ratios are compensated by using a target luminance value of a remaining image region excluding the first and second image regions among the image regions receiving the light generated from the first and second first light sources. The first and second first light sources are driven by using the compensated duty ratios.

  • Publication number: 20090284949
Abstract: An optical element includes a light-transmitting structure and a first reflection-prevention layer. The light-transmitting structure has a first surface and a second surface facing the first surface. The first reflection-prevention layer includes a plurality of first light-refractive index buffering particles deposited on the first surface such as the concentration of the particles decreases as the distance from the first surface increases. The first reflection-prevention layer decreases the variation of a light-refractive index from the light-transmitting structure to an air layer to decrease the light reflectance of the first surface. Therefore, the light transmittance of the light-transmitting structure is increased due to the reflection-prevention layer formed on a surface of the light-transmitting structure, so that luminance may be enhanced. Moreover, the reflection-prevention layer may enhance the resistance of the light-transmitting structure to external impacts.
